The arguments between a Paladin and a necromancer must get really interesting. I just hope when it breaks out into bloodshed I can watch.

But hey, life (or in this case death) is hard.

Yep, reanimate the sucker. Use him to set off ambushes and lethal traps before the main party blunders into them!

There are things you don't do to a person if you want to be able to do something else with them later, such as bring them back to life.

Now if you could animate a corpse so that it doesn't decay, can still be safely resurrected later, and "carries itself", then that might work.

Actually resurrection is the wrong spell. For newly dead, you raise dead (level 5 necromantic sphere). For the LONG dead, you resurrect (level 7 necromantic spell). Resurrect is a much more expensive and taxing spell, aging the caster 3 years (adjusted by race), and thus NOT a normally used bit of lore. And raise dead is quicker.

The down side of raise dead is the raised person is helpless for any day or part of day after returning to life. Resurrected beings return fully functional -- as they were at the time of death, so if they were really old and died of old age, you might need a potion to restore youth or extend life, or it'll be a short visit.

Your mileage may vary with other RPGs.

Resurrection will bring him back, but Reanimation will make him a mindless zombie, and in this case, one that takes orders.

Considering all this specific cleric can do is prescribe potions, proper resurrection is out anyway.

I'd suggest you also include the dead guy's wife/girlfriend in this conversation. I believe she and her rabbit might not react well to the wrong choice.
