TRDL 2012 Series, No. 35 – Spider-Man: Black CostumeTRDL Cryptohistorical Redesign
This was done for the R3 Art Challenge, the subject being Spider-Man’s classic black costume (prior to the retcon of Venom).
I actually really love the Secret Wars black costume redesign of Spider-Man, though I’m no fan of the later Venom retcon. This time, however, I decided to do a Cryptohistorical Redesign set in the 30′s. The Arachnid Gent, you see. Straps of white leather holding to a ring at the sternum trace back to a harness between the shoulders that he can attach his ropes to in order to rappel over steep drops, and he wears the ropework laced up his forearms for easy access. Anyway, here’s an unsolved police case file, for your viewing pleasure.

Very impressive. A hint of the Noir Spider I sense, but nonetheless, it is a very well done piece that you've managed to make your own! Nicely done!

Thanks! Do you refer to Spider-Man: Noir the mini-series, or the recent video game from the last few years, out of curiosity. I have the former in my stacks but haven't gotten to them yet, and I haven't seen anything on the latter. I'm intrigued.
On and the R3 Forum from which the jam originated, we have a weekly art challenge, and the one in question for that week was Black Costume Spider-Man (ie. not Venom as he was retconned into being) so as with many of these weekly challenges, I desiced to do a redesign, and wherever I can squeese in a cryptohistorical redesign the better!

I refer to both, since they are the same timeline. And you should definitely read them, they are a great read, I go back to them every now and then, I truly hope they continue to make more of the Spider-Man Noir.
Ah, well, I'm glad you decided to do this piece then. Very nicely done! You should do more Spider-Man, or even more comic book related works! I think you'd do wonderfully!

oh you read it? well the series has peter start out in a version to the costume you have which is his wrestling costume,(just add sunglassess, and a really badly stitch white spider in the front and back. he's not called spider-man just yet, but the seires picks up six months adfter the orgin story (becuase everyone knows it and rather not rehash anything) Petes 17, he's the Spider, knows Parkour (PK) spider sense gives him huge headaches,and webshooters look epic. its very tencno-sci-fi world. no symboites yet, nbut tis soem kickass stuff.
