Aside from the story behind broken down autos, I love the contrast of the rich colors against the bright white snow and the raw rusted sun-warmed metal against the cold soft ground cover. Great shot!

I chose this image as a basis for my paper on "Unseen America" for one of my classes. It's very meaningful and I see it telling a lot of different things.

I drove along this interstate(which one I forget...lazy to look it up) and saw similar stuff. I was going to stop but I happened to get lost and was running late. I had to travel 260 miles in less than 3 hours o_o. I be going back to the area... for photos.

In the south west US this stuff is everywhere, I only wish I had more time to document it all.

Yeah well in the North (and Canada), cars pretty much rust away within their first decade of life lol, so you'd be hard pressed to find such examples here lol. Lots of snow though, and particularly here in Ottawa, cold....see unbelievably freezing temperatures.

Yeah my brother lives in BC, and says once you go inland it gets freezing.

Indeed. Everything from the Rockies east freezes like crazy in the winter.

Great shot! Those were definitely part of someone's american dream at one time. I don't know why people can't let go of stuff more easily. Makes for great scenery though!

For sure, I could not believe the amount of derelict cars and even towns along the side of highways. When I thought of America before, I imagined everything pristine and new. It's a land of great extremes. I went to a place off route 66, called Ashfork it was third world.

Just few hours ago I walked by a rusted worn out Model-A (Model-T?) truck.
If you didn't stop in Arizona at all - you didn't miss much.
Never trust people who insist in having a full lush green lawn in a desert. I hardly ever (never?) see such a lawn in Santa Fe. I saw them all over the place when I used to visit my grandparents in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Unfortunately I can't comment on the photo itself - this particular monitor is crap.

Actually Arizona I thought was incredible. Although I agree Scotsdale and around Pheonix in my opinion is hell on earth, I saw whole golf courses in the desert, what a waste of water. But Flagstaff and Northern Arizona was one of the most beatiful places I have ever been to, so lush and green, and then in 20 mins drive your in red rock Sidona canyon.

Interesting that I've judged Arizona so harshly only because I really hated Scotsdale. I can't say I really know the state.

looks like the lost american dream, definately. you picked a great time to visit the place, the lights beautiful once again, what attracted you personally to arizona? I only ask cause I've never met anyone thats been or wants to go.

I have good friends in Flagstaff, that I went backbacking through Europe a few years back. It has more national parks than any other US state. Arizona is one of the most unique places I have ever been to, 6 climate zones in total. There's a little thing there, that some people go to, called the Grand Canyon.
