Modular Headmaster

LIFESPAN
SEASON FOUR

BEGINNINGS 1998 - 2000

CEREBROS has always been one to dread working on. He comes from the LONG HAUL "School of Non-Description," which is by no means particularly helped by a pretty dull colour scheme (like pretty much every REBIRTH-introduced character). The Japanese HEADMASTERS version -- known as FORTRESS -- is a much more detailed and satisfying design and, it should be noted, was never animated by AKOM.  Despite my inexperience, I think very little of these first attempts, perhaps especially the 2000 iteration, which looks too sinister, if that is even possible.

SECOND WIND 2008 - 2014

By 2008, I was getting better at the work in general and was able to make more of the peculiar complexity of CEREBROS' seemingly plain features. Simple side panels like he has are often hard for me to make convincingly "lifelike" and the curvature of the bottom of his faceplate does not seem to look completely true, even in the very latest update, which, even in 2014, did not turn out satisfactory on the first pass. But the improved use of shading and a slightly more vibrant choice of colours does help a little.

Ah yes. Cerebro. The Autobot who absolutely hated war. Oddly enough, Cerebro had a completely different design and personality in the sequel anime Transformers Headmasters.

To be more precise, CEREBROS' Marvel-ized design (comics, TV series) was a serious departure from the toy, whose appearance is much more closely mirrored in HEADMASTERS, where the character is called FORTRESS. HEADMASTERS, by the way, was not a sequel to THE REBIRTH, but the Japanese choice to move in a different direction from the end of the third season and even began airing several months before THE REBIRTH was broadcast in the U.S.
