Description No one ask me how long this took, because I had done a terrible job of keeping time. The most I can say is that it took over three hours.

Two iconic battle-cruisers having a go for no apparent reason. The one on the right is what I hope can be called an Imperial Star Destroyer from Star Wars, while the one that actually looks like a star, is appropriately named a Basestar from the fantastic Battlestar Galactica Series.

For those who are wondering, I'd put my money on the Basestar. At least they hit something when they shoot.

Started from random doodlings on paper, to this. I have to say that hastily put-together thing that I'll call for lack of a better word, a planet, has to be the worst artistic decision I've ever made.

Now, this may not be my best work, but it must mean something, although what that is, I don't know.

An Star Destroyer is one of the most advanced pieces of technology in the Imperial fleet, there was a good reason Cylon war era Battlestars used such primitive technology.
Star Destroyers have shields, laser cannons, and some pretty advanced hardware, too bad its all completely useless when the equally advanced computers controlling it are infected by Cylon infiltration software.
Best case the Cylons keep launching nukes at it until it is vaporised, worst case is the toasters send out heavy raiders loaded with Centurions to kill every living thing aboard the Star Destroyer and take it and the Imperial technology aboard for themselves.

Best case the Empire loses the ship, worst case the Cylons are armed with Imperial tech and they have a whole new galaxy full of organics to kill.

I like it. And if they were in a fight like that, I would agree with you, Cylons might win. A ship like an Imperial Star Destroyer would attack from about seven to ten times that distance with weapons of a much greater magnitude. I think that the fight would be stacked against the TIE fighters though.

That's a great drawing; I especially like the Basestar. I just finished watching the first series of BSG today, and I'm liking it so far.

Ummm to add to the discussion, I do love both series, But I think the basestars look cooler, and well, A basestaer can reapair itself, Even if major parts are broken from the center. so I'd say as long the basestar's FTL is functional, they'll win ^^

But now for a realistic comment, I LOVE what you did, very awesome ^^

yeah normal rockets wont work on star destroyers reflective shields but ... what about nukes ^^

SDs have shields and hulls to protect against hard radiation, not to mention that the hull itself can withstand a couple of nukes. If nukes worked against SW ships, the Empire would use them.

uh ..radiation and nuclear explosion are two different thinks .a nuclear explosion would ..wait you might be right ..Galactica took couple of nukes but that didn't work

As you can't make a shaped charge nuke, the only difference between a nuke and a normal missile is the hard radiation. The blast might dent the hull, but that is it. Get four or five nuke in and the SD is in trouble.

I'd put my money on the Basestar. At least they hit something when they shoot.

Then you'd lose the bet-Basestars have no shielding, or energy weapons, and would have their hulls torn apart by turboblaster fire in minutes. Plus, their projectile weapons would be deflected by the shields anyway. Not to forget also, the TIE bombers would make short work of a Basestar.

On the topic at hand-Great picture, keep up the good work.

I guess you're right about the basestar actually hitting stuff, but I think a Star Destroyer can take quite a beating. Plus, when basestars do get hit, they break quite easily. If you watch the few episodes of BSG when the colonials go on the offensive, you'll see what I mean. So... I dunno, I guess it's a fair fight.
Also, does it even matter if the Cylons lose? They'll just resurrect and jump back with more basestars and nukes.

A few planets (or planet, i missed part of the second season of BSG) under the control of the Cylons against an empire of MILLIONS of systems. I don't care how quick you resurrect or how many Basestars the cylons have, they are not going to make it.

The Basestar came out really nice, but the Star Destroyer looks like it's got two axis...es. Quite good.

Agree wiv Rexyf plus the star destroyer can feed over 100% reactor output to its guns so imagine how badly one full fronted blast would do haha! Very good pic tho mate!!

I won't claim to know anything about about BattleStar, but I do know that StarDestroyers can bombard a planet so heavily that the crust liquifies for several meters, the oceans boil away, and the atmosphere is blasted away. Are these BaseStars also capable of this firepower?

Trellon-Elite In reply to Rexyf [2008-01-18 22:00:10 +0000 UTC]

A single basestar can shoot out nukes like peanuts, so given enough time and motivation, they can still do some heavy damage.

Okay, thanks! I'd go with the star destroyer, It's the one I'm familiar with, and I know the hurtin' it can put out.

ISD i think a shot from its turbolaser batteries would fuck the basestar up especially without any form of shields

Don't need to aim when you've got guns where a single hit equals 75,000 80-megaton A-bombs.

clever-screen-name [2007-03-09 07:51:14 +0000 UTC]

I'd say pretty much any FTL-capable vessel from BSG could whomp ass on a Star Wars ship. Their instantaneous FTL travel is a major advantage, both in terms of ambush and retreat. Shields aren't much of an advantage when your enemy can fshingg in without warning and launch a few nukes up your ass before you even know what's going on and then bug out before you can do any appreciable damage.

Plus y'know, Cylons resurrect. Imperials don't.

And man, if it were Raiders against TIEs? Those pilots would be well and truly frakked.

Are you kidding, a Star Destroyer has guns that are effective long before missiles can come into play. Add in a point defense system for the sole purpose of blowing missiles out of the air before they hit the ship and the fact that, unlike Star Trek, the Star Destroyers don't drop their shields without a reason.

Plus, due to the fact that the SD has enough guns and power to blanket the sky in turbolasers, they don't need to hit anything.

Itsomi [2007-03-09 07:23:16 +0000 UTC]

that is an awsome piece of art.
regards to the battle however, you may notice that on bsg, they dont have shields.
you may also notice that in the sw cross sections they say that the average cannons on a SD have about 50 megatonne power. the main guns, about 20 gigatonne
you may also notice, that stardestroyers have sheilds.

i'm gona put my money on the stardestroyer.

Interesting work...
And I think the planet was quite a good idea, adds to the realism, I like it!

As for the firepower... Uhh, forget it, I won't get into another VS debate...
