i've just worked on this image for about three solid hours. from the original image, i built up five seperate tonal layers, the first of which was this (pure black).i keep all the layers i'm not working on hidden at all times, so i don't see the whole piece til the very end (i like it that way). having finished layering and colouring - it looked rubbish.
but i absolutely adore this layer. this is why i only work in black and white

i think the jagged lines and angles are so much more expressive than if you had smoothed out the curves. it's amazing how such a minimal black and white outline can show depth and feeling. awesome work!
