Description Part of the Star Wars Mythos line of statues from Sideshow Collectibles [link]

This 1:5 scale statue was sculpted nearly two nears ago, now. Designed by Joe Allard and Tom Gilliland, this piece is meant to represent Obi-Wan in the years before "A New Hope", but after "Revenge of the Sith". This gave us an opportunity to imagine the life of Kenobi as he became the reclusive, mystical figure of Tatooine.

It also allowed us to have fun imagining both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness as the character, but at different ages than we have seen them in the films.

The statue was sculpted in castiline and wax, with a sculpey base. Some of the lightsabers were sculpted by hand, and Tusken Raider weapons were output from digial models (which is why they look clear).

Many thanks, Tom! It was a real pleasure to get to work on this one....I recall many a painful hour, but it was such a cool idea that Sideshow had.

Trev, I want to see the halfway point between these two actors!!! I don't buy the whole he fell asleep as Ewan and woke up as Alec!

TrevorGrove In reply to DavidWFisher [2012-04-27 16:03:21 +0000 UTC]

Haaaa! I can imagine that being very creepy. As much as they like to say they look alike...I've never really seen more than a cursory resemblance. thin mouth, blue eyes...that's about it. It's been funny for me to see folks comment who think this is only one headsculpt.

Wow, you just made Ewan McGregor passable as Obi-Wan, I kind of never got that casting choice even though I like Ewan but now I see the resemblance.

Now make me believe Hayden Christensen should have been cast as β€œDarth”…haha.

TrevorGrove In reply to MaRge-KinSon [2012-04-27 16:23:28 +0000 UTC]

Ha! Thanks Maggie. I agree, they like to say Ewan and Alec look alike...but they really don't...everyone has eyes, a mouth, and a nose. It was cool to get to portray both actors as Kenobi. I like them both, but I would have been devastated if I hadn't been able to sculpt Guinness younger like this.

As for Hayden......GROAN. The Force is not with me enough to pull off that task.

I know what you mean, they are both pretty great but the similarities aren't as apparent as everyone says.

You just have this way of making the characters look alive, even though they are clearly statues. Plus I'm not a huge fan of the new Star Wars movies, so you get points for making me even consider Ewan as slightly better cast to play o'l Ben.

As for Hayden...haha, true, not enough force in the world for that task.

TrevorGrove In reply to MaRge-KinSon [2012-05-03 02:09:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much....it really does mean a lot. I always hope to infuse some kind of life into the statue, and it usually takes great pains to get it to come alive.

I honestly groan any time I'm asked to sculpt Hayden as Anakin.... I have to use a lot of imagination to imagine he's a good character. Thankfully, the Clone Wars cartoons have helped immensely. The guy they've got doing that Anakin is fantastic.

Actually, you know the one thing that is good about Hayden playing Darth, is the fact that Luke was a total whiney b-word.

I remember seeing Star Wars when I was young and thinking man, that guy sure does whine a lot, so in that department they got it right.

I can believe that Luke totally got his whiney-ass attitude from daddy, but only because his daddy is played by Hayden…tee hee.

Damn... It's amazing how much of both Ewan McGregor AND Alec Guinness you were able to work into this sculpt. You're definitely at the top of your game-- even if it is two years old!

I love the windswept look you achieved thru the hair.Sir Alec appears to be in his mid to late 40s at this point.Awesome!
Again Trev, you and Sideshow have managed to make my Hasbro figures seem like mere Happy Meal toys in comparison-WANT!.HAHA

TrevorGrove In reply to ChrisCrowell [2012-04-27 16:35:02 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man! Glad it communicates what we wanted. Sculpting Guinness younger was a real cool challenge. I always liked to imagine him younger in the days of the Clone Wars...long before the prequels were ever shot.

Ohhh! I still love the Hasbro figures...especially the Clone Wars ones. SO cleanly painted for production toys....love 'em.

Definetly translated that well.Lucas should just allow development of a tv series based around this already or they could spinoff Clone Wars.
You are absolutely right, those Clone Wars figures do have some clean paint apps on them!I said I was'nt buying into them so I could focus on the Vintage Collection line and ended up picking up a Dooku and Yoda from Series 1,been hooked ever since haha
Right now I am trying to get my hands on this entire set.
