Description 1/4 scale portrait for Sideshow's upcoming Emperor with Throne Premium Format statue.

Pretty darn weird to imagine the Emperor without his hood. I didn't really follow the makeup design from Episode 3, because it was just such a different approach to how they did it in Return of the Jedi.

here are shots of the finished prototype:

As always, sculpted in wax. 1/4 scale.

I'll post shots of the teeth-bared headsculpt once I can find them.

Your skill for detail is just INSANE. And considering that this is just his head, this is looking to be one epic fricken sculpture!

Fantastic sculpt Trev. Can we see the back of the head please?

ha! I don't think I ever even shot photos of the back this time. I left a nice big bald spot back there, though (just kidding)

I'll try to post more full turnaround shots in the future. I've been making a bad habit of only posting the 'money shots'.
thanks man!

What a great idea. You should have baited all the fanboys by sculpting a mohawk and then saying "I'll only change it if you can prove it ain't cannon."

Wow. Even if the facial scarring isn't exactly the same, I swear I can see Ian McDiarmid staring out from beneath the makeup. Sooooo spot on. You really are amazing.

Thanks! I'm really happy to hear that. I hoped it would still retain the feeling of McDiarmid.

Really great Trev. This sculpt, in my eyes, Looks like a lot more fun than a "normal" type portrait, am I right?

TrevorGrove In reply to MarkNewman [2011-02-02 06:01:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Mark! You're right, it was a LOT of fun. All of that skin texture and eyebrow malformation is really liberating to work on. Overall a less rigid experience.

Amazing. This is what he should've looked like in Episode 3, instead of that bloated thing he was.

I can't help bu think of the Robot Chicken skit. "My face looks like a scrotum!" LOL!
immaturity aside, it is indeed a fantastic sculpt! I'm sure the Emperor himself would be proud.

Nice! Something I always wondered about him and Vader though: what's the main reason men seek power? The ladies. No lady I know would touch either of those trainwrecks with a 10 foot pole.

Wow,I definetly want this!I love the texture you put into his in his neck especially.I have'nt personally liked to many of the recent Emperor sculpts albeit because like you said:Episode 3 was entirely a different look. and that 80s desing is hard to better.I notice that Hasbro and Funko followed the Return of Jedi makeup with their Mighty Muggs and bobble head, which was cool.I did like the recent Vintage collection Emperor though for Revenge of Sith, scooped him up pretty quick.Anyway Ill shut up Trevor, outstanding as always man!
