Description This is another belated tribute I had to do, but was sidetracked on account of my recent move.  In any case, I give you: 30 years of the original Sonic the Hedgehog!

After Sega came to terms that their mascot Alex Kidd was just not a good enough mascot to take on Mario, Yuji Naka and his game design group Sonic Team made this game for the Sega Genesis.  The story is that you play as a speedy blue hedgehog named Sonic whose objective is to free his animal friends from the evil Dr. Robotnik (Eggman to the Japanese), who seeks to rule the world with his army of robots.

Released on June 23, 1991, it became one of the biggest selling video games of all time and would see numerous re-releases on next-gen consoles.  Sonic would see many different copycats, and would be adapted into other media, like comic books, cartoons and movies.

I was at a crossroad when it came to making a tribute to the movie or this game, I chose to just do the first game as I didn't think I should do two Sonic tributes.

Sonic and Dr. Robotnik are (c) Sega
