So, for those of you who know Buddhism, there's this whole reincarnation thing which of course means that killing things is a no-no (this is way over simplified of course, but that's the basic thing you need to know to understand this comic). The crux of the matter is basically that devout Buddhists don't kill things, even the tiniest bugs. (Now, I'm no expert, so I'm not quite sure what level of devout, but I think monks are about as devout as it gets, so yeah)So basically, it was way awkward to be killing mosquitoes with glee, and then to turn around and see two Buddhist monks trying to enjoy the Giant Buddha statue (one in Nagoya in Motoyama). The people with me are my coworkers and we ended up leaving that area covered in about 20 bites apiece after only about 5 minutes. Granted, it was very rainy that day, so the mosquitoes were all WEEEE HUMIDITY AND NOMS!

I just try wearing long sleeves? there are some really nasty mosquitoes in the world ;-; I always just flick them off [I don't want bug-guts on me!!!]

GWAH the return of your mosquito curse x3 I used to be quite a mosquito-delicatessen too, but it stopped for some reason a few years ago. I guess that was around the same time that I got really tired of lurking in my bedroom at 4 am, balancing on a desk chair and swinging my deadly flip-flop.
Anyways, I recommend that you simply ignore them. They nom you a little, it can't hurt you that bad if it doesn't get rubbed too much. This may sound "easier said than done", but I'm sure they'll nom you less if you're more relaxed about them, as they can sense it and all. (it's no fun bugging a person who doesn't care, is it

Problem is, I'm highly allergic to some of the ones out here so it's like having poison oak for the entire summer and then afterwards, even if I don't scratch, I get horrible scars that look like bruises. It's really bad T_T And Mosquitoes aren't like wasps, they smell hormones and blood type, not fear so, sadly, ignoring them won't make them go away ^_^;;

man if somebody was currently a mosquito, I'd be trying to help them along to the next stage ASAP..
or you could just wait a few days and they'll die on their own.. hard to imagine they learn much from being a mosquito but who knows?

Oh god that sucks, I hated getting mosquito bites. Just curious, in Japan do they they sell the Off! Bug spray or Off! Bug clip? And lavender oil helps mosquito bites alot.

They sell some sort of bug spray, but I don't have any T_T They have a special thing for putting on bites, it smells terrible >_<

Eww...that sucks. Well if you find tea tree oil there it helps. I remember what I used to do when I couldn't find anything to soothe my mosquito bites was slapping and putting ice on them like no tomorrow.

Also! Funny story. There were buddhist monks out here once for a spiritual gathering. I ran into them in Meijer and kind of inadvertently stalked them because it was the coolest thing in the world to me. I think they caught on because they waved to me later in the parking lot though

I love the looks on their faces and the fact one is holding up the camera because it seems like you're going to be photographed. lol You know mosiquitoes used to find me tasty but I haven't been bitten by one in a long time, even when I'm in their "hunting grounds". All I know is that if you eat bananas they love you...evil things.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure to what extent the Buddhism level keeps the person from killing bugs, but needless to say, monks probably wouldn't ^_^;;
