Adorable as that voice is, at the end Wheatley does exactly what every villain does when it goes ass up for him - beg his heroic defeater to save him, relying on their good nature even though he doesn't actually deserve it and it puts them both at risk. Chell would have been killed trying to save Wheatley if GLaDOS hadn't intervened.
Honestly, Wheatley is a really awful friend if you actually think about it - he's hypocritical, selfish and manipulative.Β He's the kind of guy who gets a promotion because he's a privileged white male in his thirties (because his boss is even more of a privileged white dickbag) even though he has no fuckin' idea how to do the job. And he doesn't actually realise any of this; he thinks it's all happening because he just deserves it.
As a character, Wheatley's adorable. As a person, he's terrible.

I think he most have been in a degrading orbit around the moon during the apology scene. There's really know way he could have achieved lunar escape velocity.

What I find so emotional about this scene (both in the game and in this piece) is that, after everything Wheatley has done to you, after trying to kill you, outright stating that he hates you (if you let him rant long enough), and being SO DAMN EAGER for you to DIE...and after telling you to LET GO just to save his own damn skin...and then having the gall to pull a 180 and beg you to hold onto him...you still want to save him. You still try to grab him.

If GLaDOS wasn't suck a dick, Wheatley wouldn't have tried to kill her, or Chell, or anyone really. If she had just explained to him what to do, what was happening, why she needed to be in control, none of it would have happened.

I think Wheatley also had a huge inferiority complex that made having power so intoxicating to him that it went to his head. And I think he had a lot of pent-up frustration and anger from knowing deep down how stupid and inept he really was, and then suddenly, finally, he had the power to take it all out on someone... In a way, I don't think he could have done otherwise. That's my interpretation of his character, anyway.

Nooo Wheatley TT I hated this part in portal 2 I wish Valve added two endings, you could hold on and defeat GLaDOS or you could let him go and be friends with GLaDOS, I would choose to save Wheatley.

I admit it. I cried during this. All that was going through my head during this was, "Nononono don't let go--DAMMIT NO." As terrible as he was when he went evil, the apology at the end killed me. This is really well-drawn. Great job.
