I do like it, actually. I like it a lot. Though for some reason she reminds me a little bit of Final Fantasy (either XIII or just FF in general)... I'm really not sure why.

Okay, don't get me wrong, X is awesome, and of those you listed I have to agree it's the best. But that list is a little bit sad. (You really are young, aren't you... XD) You have to at least play IX; it's my all-time favorite. X's story is more dramatic, but IX's protagonist is by far the most likable, especially compared to his predecessors Mr. Cool Angst and Captain Emo. (I. Absolutely. Positively. Totally. Zidane.)
I've played VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII, and a little bit of XIII (I only just got my own PS3--AND I MISS TOWNS SO, SO, SOOOOOO MUCH). I played some IV and V also, but I didn't like IV very much, and as amusing as I found V, I got very, very sick of grinding on a super old system, very quickly. Seriously, you really ought to play IX. It's just.. just... great. You'll have to take my word for it--best Final Fantasy protagonist ever (he's not angsty OR wangsty, despite having as much reason as the next guy). Plus Steiner is hilarious and those adorable little moogles are your save points. VIII was... not bad, but not as good as the others, in my opinion (I hate, hate, hate drawing magic, so I only play that game with cheats XD). X-2 was fun, and I really wanted more closure from X so that was nice, but it's kinda silly too (I absolutely cannot take seriously a man named "Nooj"). And of course VI was a masterpiece, but maybe for you young'uns who didn't grow up with it, it'd be a little boring XD It's funny how half of everything I know about its story is actually conjecture more than stated in-game fact. At the time it was the most awesome, storyline-driven game ever. We're spoiled now. (But I still go back and play VI on my old SNES every few years. )

yay, you made me feel young XDD not so sure if thats a good thing though... anyways! It seems like I have no choice but to play IX, if not because of the praise then simply for the non-angst driven protagonist XD what gaming system can you get IX on? =3

OtakuLiz In reply to TrickCaster [2011-05-28 15:56:31 +0000 UTC]
It's okay, in four or five years or so, you too will be a college upperclassman and find yourself tempted to do the exact same thing to those cute little high schoolers XD It's the circle of life!
Yeah, a non-angsty protagonist is such a revolutionary feature, it should've been listed on the back cover XD It was the last PSone FF, but if they put VII and VIII up in the PSN Store I imagine they must have for IX too; I just don't know for sure because I got my PS3 RIGHT after the PSN went down. >.< (Oh God, so lame.)
Okay, I looked it up, they released IX on the PSN for PS3 or PSP about a year ago. So once that dadgum store finally goes back up... (I have been waiting for DeathSpank, waiting, waiting, waiting...)
When you play it, make sure you do the chocobo treasure-hunting mini-game. You can get really good equipment really early sometimes, and it's the only way to get a couple of ultimate or near-ultimate weapons. Fortunately, there are a bazillion guides now, so you don't have to try and find the place that's literally just a picture of water by yourself. Holy hell, that took forever the first time.

OtakuLiz In reply to TrickCaster [2011-05-29 19:54:54 +0000 UTC]
IT IS THE MOST HILARIOUS GAME EVER. And it's also for Xbox360, not just PS3, so you should check it out. DeathSpank is about a man, a hero. Named DeathSpank. (He also wears a purple thong. Don't worry, it's super cartoony, so you can't really tell.) From what I've managed to play on a friend's console so far, it's an action adventure game with tons of random sidequests and the main storyline is DeathSpank's search for the legendary artifact called The Artifact. His voice acting reminds me of The Tick, from the 90s cartoon series (not that horrible live-action one). The thing is chock full of stupid and hilarious humor. Here's an example from near the beginning of the game:
Demon Witch Heybenstance: "I placed a powerful magic seal before the Artifact."
DeathSpank (one of about four equally funny dialogue options): "Magic seal? You fiend! Enchanting defenseless circus animals?!"
Heybenstance: >.< "Not that kind of seal!"
This is the kind of humor in that game.
It cracks me up to no end.
You know what, watch this. It's the intro and it's a very, very good indicator of the rest of the game. [link]
The gameplay is fun so far too, though it seems it gets pretty hard in spots. If you have a second controller and a second player, they can help you get through them, though.

Xbox alone won't trigger something like that. Xbox has too many jock games and gateway drugs. You need the nerd/weirdo games, like JRPGs or the ones that spawn internet memes (like Zero Wing or Portal). If it's a game that being a fan of used to subject you to merciless wedgies in school, so much the better.
