i hate that game (Sonic 1), JUST because of this godamn level -_-

I wont always go for 100% in-game accuracy. I'm more concerned with mood, or in this case, making sure it's 100% clear that it's underwater. You can see it in "true" colours on the Zone Zero website [link]

This is great! I love the stress and anxiety in Sonic's face. The lighting is really nice, as it the detail on the bricks

Love the theme song on this level. And just the entire look, and sound of the water. I could happily make sonic just stand at the top of one of those water slides. and sit back and listen to the music and sounds and take in the view on the screen.
