Description "Ooh, I'd like to take a handfull of that back to the barracks!"

Presenting a new resident of Vistallah: The Virago--a culture of physically enhanced warrior women! ...They're sort of like Amazons, but while Amazons use thier abilities to separate themselves from normal society, Viragos use thier abilities to carve out thier own niche in that society. Specifically, they have installed themsevles in the warrior class of society. That means that family groups--called squads--occupy certain key positions--a gate, a fortified bridge, a watchtower, etc--and serve as the permanent garrison of that location. The protect the populous around them, and extract taxes/tribute from the populous in return. Just like your typical feudal warrior....

As soldiers, Viragos are never without thier weapons and armor. Thier signature weapon is the spear. ...Look, they just enjoy spears, okay... For armor, they use something similar to hoplite armor. Heavy greives and some sort of breastplate for protection, and a loose but thick skirt for a combination of protection and mobility. However, when they are not 'on duty,' they sometimes take a more flirty view of 'armor' and don a chainmail bikini!

And like many warriors, they often display a very agrressive interest in the opposite sex.

...They like men. Recreationally, but regularly.

Recreationally, but regularly? Do continue.

Well, their culture doesn't value long-term relationships with men, and doesn't need men for any rituals or anything...But nor does thier culture say anything bad about just having fun with guys!

I love the term that you use for this group of amazonian ladies: virago, the heroic women.

When will you next write a story about the residents of Vistallah?

Alas, I've really fallen out of the habit of writing stories, so I can't really say...

But I'm glad you appreicated these ladies, and thier name!

If you were to go off the "rules" of D&D, that bikini chainmail would protect her better then the full set of armor.

Lol, judging by the emote, I take it you do not play D&D. :3

It's a fun table top RPG. :3 Especially if you're with a good group. Though there are some unspoken, unofficial rules that you have to follow.

Rule 1: The DM is God. It doesn't matter if you're character is God, what the DM says goes.

Rule 2: It doesn't matter how or where you get hit. As long as you have 1 HP, you're perfectly fine.

Rule 3: You never get tired in a fight, ever.

Rule 4: Female armor always covers less, but is just as efficient as male armor.

Oh, I definately know what D&D is, I've just never gotten a chance to play it...

SithLordNergal In reply to TriffRaff [2012-05-21 20:05:26 +0000 UTC]

You should play it. I think you would enjoy it...especially if you manage to find the right group of people.

The pointed ears made me at first think they were elves. But then I read the description. ^^

Interesting concept. Also, I am right in assuming from the comparative sizes in the pic (i.e. how big the man looks compared to the vigaro) that virago are considerably taller than amazons?

TriffRaff In reply to Tarturus [2012-05-17 00:10:02 +0000 UTC]

Good eyes. They are developed from Elves, and they're one step above Amazons in size.

Tarturus In reply to TriffRaff [2012-05-17 06:39:35 +0000 UTC]

I'm guessing that since they're already gigantic, they would not have any of the size changing powers that at least some of the elves have.

TriffRaff In reply to Tarturus [2012-05-17 13:26:57 +0000 UTC]

Correct! All magcal ability has been traded for permanent size and durability.

Ha, that guy looks nervous. I like the difference between the two Viragos warriors, not just how they dress but their skin tone, ears, etc.

So, finally, we have an explanation for the chainmail bikini - Red Sonja just used it to get laid!

Well, what do you know, we actually meet a tribe of warrior women that is actually decent...at least compared to the Amazons.

By the way, are Viragos born or made?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TriffRaff In reply to mzhamma [2012-05-17 00:07:22 +0000 UTC]

...Sometimes. I didn't fully detail thier backstory here, but I think of them sort of like Normans--they were developed at the fringes of Vistallah, and first moved to many areas as raiders/pirates/vikings. Then they settled down where conditions were good...

But, yeah, they can actually be productive members of society!

...They are like Amazons. They are born, but must be initiated...

mzhamma In reply to TriffRaff [2012-05-17 01:10:53 +0000 UTC]

I see; have you worked how they are initiated?

I'm sorry if these questions make you uncomfortable. I'm just sort of naturally curious.

Im thinking some sort of relatively benign blood sacrice from the mother. Cut her palm, leave bloody hand-print on infant's forehead...something like that...

mzhamma In reply to TriffRaff [2012-05-17 02:47:43 +0000 UTC]

That sounds reasonable. I can't wait to see what else you do with these characters.

Spears are a good weapon - but they could use a second weapon for targets too unwieldy for the spear, e.g. a dagger of some kind.

TriffRaff In reply to TempDAlogin [2012-05-17 00:02:15 +0000 UTC]

Probably, but secondary weapons tend to clutter up drawings....

Must be a cultural holdover from fighting their own kind. I would think a spear would be best for opponents near your own size or larger. Fighting a mob of little guys would be quicker with a long sword or scythe.

They could keep cotes of skunk people. When in doubt, throw a skunk at it.
