Description From the world of Eternal Darkness, Alex Roivas joins the Brawl! Her fighting style is one based around ancient, dark magicks.

Since her adventures toppling the Ancients, young Alex has since honed her magickal skills to new levels of power.

----------------

NAME: Alex Roivas
FIRST APPEARANCE: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (GameCube, 2002)
SERIES: Eternal Darkness
LOGO: Rune of Mantorok

----------------

For those of you that don't know, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was Nintendo's first true stab at a horror game (Luigi's Mansion doesn't count, people). It is a dark tale of magicks and monsters, which is surprising when you realize it was published by the same company that made Super Mario Bros.

Of course, this whole story requires a bloody ton of explanation that I, in all truthfulness, don't really care to type. Everything you need to know about Eternal Darkness should be found here .

Personally, I loved this game, and I would be more than happy to see a character from it be playable in Brawl. The obvious choice seems, to me, to be Alexandra Roivas, the central protagonist of the entire game. Of course, some people would rather have Pious Augustus playable before Alex, but I believe in "heroes before villains," so Pious shouldn't be in the game unless Alex is, too.

The fact that she was in an M-rated game really shouldn't have much to do with her inclusion in the series. After all, if that was a real issue, then Sakurai would've no-no'ed Snake a long time ago.*

For her moveset, I chose to go with Ancient magicks rather than conventional weaponry. This is due to the fact that Sakurai decided that there would be no conventional weaponry (i.e. bullet-firing guns) in the game. Plus, I always found the guns in the game to be a lot more boring than the magicks provided to you.

As for her choice of weaponry, well, that requires a little bit more explanation. Near the end of Eternal Darkness, if you completed a certain chain of events (a sidequest, if you will), a permanently-enchanted Gladius sword was mysteriously delivered to your house. This Gladius was always magickally-aligned to the Ancient that opposed your enemy Ancient.

This new Gladius she wields in the Profile is a special one. It's a permanently Mantorok-aligned blade, allowing her to channel the magicks of the Dead God into every slash of her sword. The reason that it has purple edges is the fact that the color of Mantorok's magick is a deep shade of purple.

Of course, the reason for her Mantorok Gladius and her logo being the rune of Mantorok is the fact that Mantorok seems to be the only Ancient that wasn't really out to get anyone. In a weird sort of way, Mantorok was a big help to everyone. I'm not going to spoil the story for you how he helps, so just play the game already.

Of course, Mantorok did have some Zombie minions, but they were complete weaksauce, so it's really no big deal.

*Coincidentally, Silicon Knights, the company that developed Eternal Darkness, is the same company that developed Metal Gear Solid: the Twin Snakes for the GCN. Also, David Hayter did voice work in both games.

Update: As of today (7/30/09), the text in this profile has been updated with Justified Left alignment, making the text a little cleaner when confined to boxes. Also, some move descriptions have been changed to better fit the new alignment.

Awesome!
Now that's a character I'd love to use!

Alex really should have been in Brawl. Zero-Suit Samus does not count as a new female character, since she's still Samus.

haha, aww. MY dream didn't come true, alas.

I personally would've made her side B a shotgun attack XD

I hope Nintendo get another sequel to this series. I would like her to get a bigger role. On the moves, they are interesting choices, but for the Final Smash, I was thinking of her summoning Mantorok to wreck havoc upon her foes instead.

O, i do need to point out one thing, not criticizing at all, just pointing something out ^^! The Mantorok zombies aren't actually Mantorok's minions, they are merely corpses animated by Mantorok's presence. Mantorok is one of the good guys, technically . He has Guardians, as is stated in the secret ending(beat the game on all 3 alignments) but he is too weak due to Pious sealing his powers away to call on them.
Still, as I said before, AWESOME IDEA! Sakurai should have listened to you!

I think Alex would've been in the game if not for Silicon Knights only just deciding to return to Nintendo while Brawl was in the later stages of development.

Maybe the next game...

Did Silicon Knights return to Nintendo? I thought they were still with Microsoft.

It doesn't really matter anyway, because Eternal Darkness is Nintendo's intellectual property. At least I think it is...

Yeah, I read that Silicon Knights went back to Nintendo recently. And Eternal Darkness IS Nintendo Property.

i like this idea. Eternal Darkness is my favorite game ever made, and I would have LOVED to play as Alexandra Roivas in SSBB. I like your ideas for her attacks. A++, great work!

I was thinking of Pious as a character too
And Mantorok´s hall would make an awesome stage
Mantorok would try to pick players with his tentacles and dragging them down to the bottom, KOing them

It could be a random kind of thing, much like the effects themselves. But damn it'd be awesome to see her in Brawl, regardless.

After seeing this, I had an idea for her Final Smash you might like. Basically, the game starts "glitching", and weird things begin to show up/happen, such as enemy damages reading at 999% when they aren't, or buttons don't respond, or controls are reversed, etc. Or, "the blue screen of death" will appear. ^-^;

Sounds pretty cool, but how would that deal damage to her opponents?

TheUltamate [2007-08-28 23:46:13 +0000 UTC]

I notice that none of her main attacks use her sword.

Now, I've never played/heard of this game. Was it a GCN title?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TriforceJ In reply to TheUltamate [2007-08-29 03:23:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Alex's sword is mainly a physical, A-button sort of thing. In the game, though, she does raise it before aiming a Magickal Attack spell with it.

As for Eternal Darkness, it was released only for the GCN, seeing as how it was a first-party title. You might find a used copy of it at a Gamestop or EBGames or something.

If you have the means to play it, I highly recommend it.

The fact that it's related to Eternal Darkness!

Shouldn't seem too weird. Eternal Darkness is a first-party title, after all.
