Description
This is a little something that some fellow deviants and classmates of mine, and invited me to participate in (Check out their Dogs, and the rest of their galleries while you're at it). They'd both made some awesome drawings based on the theme of dogs of war, and I figured I'd throw my hat into the ring and put my own spin on the idea. It was actually a lot of fun doing this, and it finally gave me some scope of what I've learned in this last year of illustration.
Anyhow, this piece was done mostly in ink with either a brush or quill, mostly brush, on sketchbook paper, which I think I'll avoid using in the future. Fancy artist board has really spoiled me. White gouache was used liberally to create the light reflection effects. Afterwards, I applied a little powdered graphite to give the sky some substance and played with it in HP image zone. Nothing too fancy needed. I used several references for both dogs, all found through google and used without permission or anything close to semblance of the original dogs. The whole thing took anywhere from 10 to 12 hours.
Now, maybe I'll have the drive to work on some of my own projects. At least, in the last minutes, something about this year ends right.
