I was playing RE5 a couple of months ago (before my roomate's Xbox died) and I got to thinking about how often zombies are accidentally created when trying to come up with super soldier. Super soldier programs are basically an invitation to trouble in fantasy worlds. So, I played with the idea of what if it worked out right for once? What would be the ultimate practical application of zombies?
This guy would be part of an platoon of shock troops, designed for situations when only complete destruction of a hostile force will suffice. The bodies of the recently deceased are given a viral stem-cell compound that partially reanimates the body. Motor function and basic brain activity return, but all higher functions are lost. The walking dead are then modified with simple nerve implants and chemical treatments, to prolong durability and provide some degree of control over movement. Lightly armored to remain mobile but to prevent the most debilitating of physical damage, and armed with a dangerous chemical nerve agent, deployed through a high-powered chemcial sprayer gun. The toxin destroys the heart and lungs but otherwise leaves the body intact, and thus providing more potential subjects for zombification. The masks serve both to prevent headshots, which is the only effective way to remove one of these troops, and also to unnerve.
A scary thought, and a fun one.
