Actually, this comic's Lyra isn't a human or hand-maniac. She's into magic way more, which I think would be way more logical if a human being would find herself in pony form in Equestria.

I've always loved lyra in the tv series just because,Β she's "under estimated".Β Β We really don't KNOW a lot about her but what we do know says a lot.Β Β We know she went to Celestia's school too, so she had to have had a strong aptitude for magic.Β Β We know she was at the royal wedding as a brides maid...Β Β that says that at min, her family must have been importantΒ and or she was close friends with cadence.Β Β We know she has the cloud walking spell, we see her in the best flyer competition on a cloud, the only non main 6 unicorn there.
And thats not even touching on Alicorn Lyra in the IDW comics.
Lyra's got a lot of secrets about here,Β that we just don't know yet.

I think that's for the better, so we all can have our own version of alternative Lyra, without twisting the original one too much.
In this comic for instance, she'll be sent to the canterlot wedding under the cover of a bridesmaid by the RIA, kinda as a bodyguard for Cadence.

The hand obsession meme came from a series of fan-made assertions, that can be traced back to a single scene in the show where Lyra sits seemingly differently from what the viewer would think a horse would. Except we can see ponies sitting on their rump dozens of times in the show (just look at how they sit in school, when they are camping, etc).
