Description My first ever felted project.

This little guy is just a random troll from World of Warcraft.
He was needlefelted with a lot of love and patience, and while looking for a name, I just descided to name him 'Wol'Jin'... since he's a 100% merino wool, and a littlebit of a pun relating to the Troll Leader, Vol'Jin.

He's still not fully done, I'm still giving the poor thing a vest and a belt, perhaps some other little details which I'm still working on

Sorry about the photo-quality being a bit scruffy.
I'll make a better presentation soon.

How tall is His Wol'jinsomeness? He's very coy about his stature. (I understand Trolls might be a little sensitive about such things. )

Trollsngoblins In reply to DrawingForMonkeys [2013-04-11 16:37:52 +0000 UTC]

He's actually very tiny. Head to toe, he's no bigger then my lowerarm, and I'm no giant nor midget. Just an average guy. Since I'm european, metric measurements would say about 30 cm tops.

.. kind of ironic. I have a tiny troll and a giant-sized goblin o.0

Ahhh. A HEX, clearly. I'm sure it'll wear off. Eventually!
(and I would have thought at least 60 cm! If that makes him feel any better... The detailing is excellent.)

Well, the haircolor alone gives away it's not Vol'Jin.
It's WOL-Jin. The silly pun. xD

But maybe in the future I'll make a Vol'Jin.
Let's first see what that announced Vol'Jin model-update entails, right? ;D

Thanks! ^___^
I might make more in the future, so we can take a look if we can combine the jointed doll technique with felt! Posable fluffies!

angermuffin In reply to Trollsngoblins [2012-05-11 04:51:02 +0000 UTC]

You could certainly felt over a wire frame to make pose-able fluffies! But I think putting clay head, hands, and feet on a felt body would be a pretty awesome combo. Detailed, but squishable!

Trollsngoblins In reply to angermuffin [2012-05-11 15:35:24 +0000 UTC]

Hrmmm, it's not that hard to make/woolsculpt the wool into shape, and one can go very detailed on the tiniest of felt-projects.
I wish I could give a good example of Wol'Jin's eyes, all wool, even the little glimmer in there.

I'm thinking about making a few felt-squishables with wireframe bodies, among which a 'life-sized' shoulder-imp.
That one will be a bendie instead of a jointed, so one can use him as a shoulder-imp for Live Action RolePlay.

But we'll see!

Haha this is awesome! I've been thinking about making a troll doll/plush this year. I thought about needle-felting one but will probably not go that route. I'm still thinking of how to go about it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trollsngoblins In reply to weaselbeast [2012-03-04 04:59:42 +0000 UTC]

I'm making a much bigger one now, and the other project I'm making is an -almost- true-sized goblin.
So far, I find that needlefelting and wetfelting in combination go very well.

If you want to make a filling to work around, take a rough cotton fabric and sew a base figure, filling that with fibrefill or whatever is your choice. Felt will latch on to every natural fabric with the help of the needle and wetfelting
Just an idea. ^^

That's really cool! I may have to try that, though I think for my first troll sculpture I'm going to go for a plush/sewn doll one. I found some patterns online for sale which look like they could be adapted. I know nothing about sewing, so it could be an adventure.

Trollsngoblins In reply to weaselbeast [2012-03-04 16:57:48 +0000 UTC]

When I started making stuff, I didn't know a sewing stitch from a hole in the ground.
The best thing about needlefelting is that... no sewing is required xD

Wol'Jin hasn't got a single sewn bit. Just punch.. punch some more.. sculpt the wool.. punch a little more
But I did a voodoo doll for LARP, and a tiny ragdoll for a LARP plot as well. They were crude, learning how to sew on the fly, but it only added to their charm. But there's some -very- good tutorials out there.
Sadly, I don't think I've got pics of the ragdoll and voodoo doll, else I would've uploaded them.

[link] Was a -great- help to me on the ragdoll, would probably have been better if I didn't have so little time to make it. Runo has character-dolls and tutorials, as well as plush animal tutorials. Every now and then the english is a tad odd, but that's because it's translated from Japanese. All in all, it's very understandable
Hope the link helps!

Thanks for the link! I think a friend who is better at sewing things has pointed me at that site before. I have gotten a few patterns and will see if I can figure out how to adapt them to WoW troll proportions. Thanks for your help!

Most welcome. ^___^ Be sure to post your trollsie as soon as he's done! I'm taking forever on a bigger troll (my main, Strike) and a 'semi-life-sized goblin' (my alt, Vilmer)... so I'm always curious on what others make

I can so advice everyone to just try needle-felting.
That way you can make whatever you dream up. ^__^

I'd lovingly commission these, if it wasn't a lot of work, and me being unable to part with my felties as soon as I finish them :unhappy:

I'll keep it in mind, the felting projects have pretty much come to a halt for the past months, but that doesn't mean I'm totally throwing things overboard.

First things first, then felting again! ^__^

Trollsngoblins In reply to Hayazaki-Iroke [2010-11-24 02:08:21 +0000 UTC]

Yup. One side is braided, the other twisted. With yarn, I plan to wind up the ends a bit, but the wool felts itself enough while working with it, to actually keep it perfectly braided and twisted up without having to do a thing.
