Description "Look both ways before you cross, dumbass." -Sandy

So its Friday the 13th today, saw some art of Jason come up, decided to show my superiority over him HEH.

I don't like horror games or movies, now it ain't because I don't enjoy being scared, because I used to run around elementary school like everyone else and pretend to be scared. Its the way these games and movies do it, that I don't like. Now I will explain why, if you care to read.

All horror games/movies are the same, now before you comment, pointing out different games or movies and how they work, I will tell you why. The best and easiest way to get people scared is to disarm them. All of these horror genres could have easily been changed if someone brought a gun when they went camping, or when they went to work as a security officer at a pizzeria. But here's the thing, its not scary if you can kill the scary thing, therefore no one is armed in any of these films or games. Disarming the player or main character forces them to run for their lives, but wait, what about that one personality type that likes to stand up against the biggest odds? Easy fix, give the killer/horror powers, make them invincible, make them not human, make them undead, seen that before. To put more pressure on the player or characters, they are trapped, no escape until they complete certain tasks, fix generators, collect notes, find clues, you name it.

Now that you have disarmed the player/main character, created a sense of urgency by creating tasks they need to complete with the killer around, how to make it more scary? Easy, make it night, add fog. If the main character or player can't see anything, it puts them on edge. Another thing, add a heart beat sound in the background, where is it coming from? Who cares, it scares people.

But wait, you say there are a few movies or games that allow the characters to have guns? Why are they still considered to be in the horror genre when they are allow to have weapons? Here's why: The weapons are ineffective, sure they may work, do damage to the killer, but very little damage. Its not worth shooting the killer at this point, false hope.

I don't enjoy playing victim, this is why my characters are armed. I find enjoyment in killing the horror character, the killer chasing me. Can't do that in these horror games because then it wouldn't be scary.
