Description I know it's been awhile since I posted because really outside of Sonic Boom there isn't much information on anything outside of clickbait articles of P2017. I feature time to debunk another myth so on the SA3 page I uploading posts with Videos debunking the Classic Sonic myth. What is the Classic Sonic myth you might ask. Basically it's where people make up false shit about Classic Sonic and the Genesis era as a whole so it's kinda my job that I bestrode upon myself to dismiss and debunk all the fake rep around Classic Sonic's name and to hopefully spread some Sonic knowledge around the community.

So let's get started with the first and the most important part of the "Classic Sonic myth". Classic Sonic never spoke in any of the Genesis titles that's why Classic Sonic in Sonic Generations didn't speak at all.
It's no secret anyone with common sense about Sonic called bullshit on that statement because even if we were to ignore the two titles in this meme there's still Sonic CD a game for the Sega CD where he talk in and with that logic Tails and Robotnik shouldn't be talking in Generations since they never spoke in ANY Classic Sonic game. The only reason Sonic didn't speak in the Genesis game was due to hardware limitation and cartridge space while there were Sega Genesis games with voice acting in them it was just one word during gameplay and one line during the loading screen, but other than that a lot of Genesis games couldn't include voice acting in their games that goes for Sonic too.

Let's look at the 3 evidence shown here.
The first one is an arcade game from Japan called Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car what's so special about this game? Well, it was release the same year as Sonic the Hedgehog 1 on the Sega Genesis so this game alone proves that Sega always wanted to include voice acting in the Sonic series why else would they waste money on an obscure arcade title to have something the main games could of had if they cut down on memory. Also it wasn't like Sonic CD where Sonic only said 1 word and that's it, he was speaking in complete sentences and was talking throughout the game even having a decent conversation with Dr. Robotnik who might I add also spoke in this game as well so this game basically save Robotnik's ass in Sonic Generations on why he have a voice.

The second one is another arcade game from Japan called SegaSonic the Hedgehog now, what's so special about this game? Well just like Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car this game also included voice acting and it was release the same year as Sonic CD and the Sega CD. Sonic, Mighty, Ray, and Dr. Robotnik, all spoke throughout the game now you might be asking why Sega gave voice acting to two characters who didn't stick around in the series. It's the same as every video game out there with one-off characters, their important parts to the story and I'm guess they don't want an odd man out since Mighty and Ray are both important to this game's plot and since Sonic and Robotnik already had voice actors it only make logical sense to give two new characters introduce in this game voice actors like the main protagonist and antagonist.

And the third and final evidence is Sonic CD. I know what your thinking "Sonic CD isn't an obscure game and everyone know he talk in that game. You been exposed >:c". Yes, yes, I know Sonic CD isn't the rarest or the most obscure game out there but I feel like it's worth bring up because this game is an example of Sonic Team intend to give their main star a voice. The Sega CD is basically an add-on to an already existing system which not only booted the Genesis processing power, but allow them to use a technology that would make their dreams of giving the blue blur a voice possible in a game that isn't for one of their arcade machines and no doubt they took full advantage of the opportunity they have to give Sonic the Hedgehog a voice which until 2005 or 2011 if going by Christian Whitehead's port the game WAS obscure and the only way to play it and experience it was by shelling out money for a Sega Genesis, a Sega CD add-on, and a copy of Sonic CD if you could find it at a cheap price or a good working Sega Genesis emulator that could play Sega CD games which is a nightmare to program in of itself.

And by looking at that I only have evidence for Sonic, Mighty, Ray, and Robotnik himself, but nowhere did I even mention Tails so can someone give me an in-universe no theory on why Classic Sonic doesn't speak but Classic Tails does. Prove me wrong and I'll remove myself from DA.

I believe with all the evidence I present I'm hoping to break this fake claim of Classic Sonic being the silent protagonist like Mario and Link. And before I go Sonic's voice in these games was provided by Takeshi Kousao. (Future Trunks from Dragon Ball Z), Dr. Robotnik's voice was provided by Masaharu Sato (who is now the voice of Modern Dr. Eggman), Sonic's voice in Sonic CD was provided by Keiko Utoku who was the lead singer of Sonic CD's intro and Outro.

Just encase you need video prove of what I say is true here's the link to the two games.

Sonic also spoke in the Japanese version of Sonic CD, as well as the English version. Keiko Utoku (the voice of Sonic in that game) is a Japanese voice actress. The lines were probably recorded in Japan first.

Yeah...

Even though in the Japanese version of CD, Sonic still says the same lines that he says in the English version.

Well turns out that Sonic's voice actor in Sonic CD isn't Keiko Utoku but rather Masato Nishimura. What a let down.... twitter.com/Mazin__/status/884…

True. Classic Sonic was never meant to be mute like the classic tards say. Will you guys do more vids by the way? How about talk about the modern Sonic models.

Now in Mania Adventures NONE of the classic characters bother to speak, not even Eggman and Tails who spoke in Generations.

I knew Sonic CD had a bit of voice acting when you make Sonic possibly commit suicide when he jumps off the screen after waiting for 3 mins straight. I thought it was a bit dark to be honest. Though it just gets darker when you play the American one with the creepy game over music that plays when he dies. Well done Sega for practically giving Americans nightmares.

I'm not American. That's why I talked about the game over music.
And the Japanese one wasn't creepy or terrifying.

I never knew about the other two games and I never heard of the Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car one.
I didn't even know that is an actual game. I thought it was a scrapped game like Sonic Xtreme that never came out.

I didn't know about Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car until a few years ago and I didn't even know it had voice acting and was release the same year as the original Sonic game and I especially didn't know Sonic was voiced by the guy that did Future Trunks in Dragon Ball Z (Japanese version)

Not to mention Classic Sonic not speaking makes no sense in-universe and none of the characters even react to it. AT LEAST explain it as, " he has a sore throat, " and while the meta reason for keeping him mute would still exist, it'd at least be believable. And since he can't talk and just acts like a bland nice cheerful person in Generations, Classic Sonic might as well be Mario for all the personality he shows. Let that sink in. Sonic, acting just like Mario. Yep, that's true to Sonic's roots alright, yep.

Actually, not even Mario is an entirely silent protagonist like Classic Sonic was in Generations, even if you don't count his random setences like "It's-a-me, Mario!". Even if you don't count Hotel Mario, Mario teaches Typing or Mario's Game Gallery, there are multiple canon games where he reacts to his surroundings with his voice: Super Mario Land, Super Mario 64, the Mario&Luigi RPGs and most important of all, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon where he has a short dialogue with Luigi at the end where he thanks him for saving him, fully voice acted and all. If you play the spin-off games and especially the RPGs, you'll notice that Mario actually does have a distinct personality and is not an empty character like Link or the Pokémon trainers. And there's a reason why Link and the Pokémon trainers are empty: Those games are supposed to be your own adventures, not you having someone else go through the adventure for you. That's the reason why Link is called Link for god's sake, he's supposed to be directly linked to the player. Mario and Sonic being characters like that would make no sense whatsoever.

I think Link's name is starting to lose it's meaning cause in certain games like the Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, and maybe Twilight Princess it look like they started to give Link his own personality beside being the player in Link's body. It's just that in the majority of his game Link is a piece of wood and starting with Generation 3 the Pokemon trainers start having their own personality if your not playing the boy or the girl character in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire your kinda sorta rival is the opposite sex trainer depending on who you chose at the start of the game Brenden or May (Which are their actual names) are the son/daughter of the leading professor of that game, in Generation 4 is the same case as Generation 3 except your rival isn't the opposite sex trainer but is actually your friend who are the son/daughter of the leading professor in that game (Diamond & Pearl), Gen 5 with Black & White it's back to the Red & Blue formula with there being only one trainer throughout the whole journey and you don't run in to the opposite sex of that game, however in X&Y it's back to the Ruby & Sapphire with your friend being the opposite sex trainer depending on who you chose at the start of the game, and now we're at where we're at back to the Red & Blue formula with you not running into the opposite sex.

So for awhile it look like GameFreak & Nintendo decided to give characters to the unchosing Pokemon Trainer instead of them just disappearing after selecting your character.

Also this was more on the line about Sonic Team's original intend to give Sonic a voice at the very start I don't think Nintendo or Gamefreak had any intend to give their characters a voice or a personality for that matter except for Captain Falcon and Fox but we seen how Nintendo treat those series.

I don't know about LoZ, but what they did with the opposite gender character from the Pokémon games doesn't really count as the character gaining a personality. First off, they usually have an entirely different setting than you when you start the game. You're not the grandson or assistant of a professor when you play the game, so you're obviously not the same character. Second, the opposite gender character stays the same, no matter what gender you pick. They don't have an individual personality, the sprites are just placeholders for this character's appearance. And third, the character you play is still silent. The recent games have given you the option to either be nice or be a jerk when you answer questions or ask different questions in some situations, but those options have no effect on the game, half of the time not even on the dialogue that's spoken afterwards. It has about as much of an effect as Link going "Hyaaaaah!" when using his sword. I don't know why they've been doing this "opposite gender character shows up during the game"-thing from Gen 3 onwards(it was in Gen 5 too, but the character only appears once in Nimbasa City and whenever you want to double battle on the Battle Subway without a second player), but it's not in Sun/Moon anymore. I think they only did that to give the characters official names outside of the Anime which isn't canon to the games. If they don't do that, they just use the names of the versions to name them. Red and Blue from Pokémon Red and Blue, Leaf was added as the female character in Leaf Green/Fire Red, Kris is from Crystal and Sun and Moon are the playable characters in, you guessed it, Sun and Moon. However, you never see any other player characters aside from Red when you're playing a different player from another game. Red is also confirmed to be the player from the Gen 1 games, most likely Pokémon Yellow as he has all the starters and a Pikachu. He is the only actual player character you ever encounter and he's mute.

let's also not forget they went out of their way to make two tv shows around the time of the classics where it's bound to have characters talking in it, Sonic included.
They were always trying to make him speak anyway, they just couldn't because of issues.

I always knew about the Sonic CD thing as it is one of my favorite games from the franchise behind SA1. The thing is Sonic could talk just not in a full voiced format. There's no reason he shouldn't have spoke in Generations other than the fact that they wanted to feed in fake nostalgia and people already have it ingrained in their heads to treat Classic Sonic radically different from Modern Sonic.

I was gonna add that in but considering that their tv commercials I felt like that wouldn't be the best example since a lot of Video game characters have that look at the first Crash Bandicoot commercial he spoke prefect English in that commercial but in the games he can barely speak English without it coming off as crazy and since a lot of people want the game canon so badly I figure I give it to them by using something they probably never even heard of unless your a hardcore Sonic fan.
