I feel like this was a way to make pink diamond redeemable, like for aquamarine she came off a a bratty gem that raises the question of how she stands so high in rank, but was willing to forgive topaz for her moment of defiance.

It's sad that so many fans now hate her. She obviously believed that shattering herself would end the war and scare the other Diamonds away. She likely didn't know about corruption at all, and she certainly never intended for it to happen.

I know she made mistakes but I still think she was well intentioned and certainly tried to do what she thought wa the right thing.

You know, while we're on the subject...how is PD any worse than Elsa from Frozen? She too abandoned her position as a ruler, but while PD continued to lead her gems in the form of Rose, Elsa left her kingdom in the hands of her idiot sister, a kingdom not of immortal gems, but of humans who are probably going to starve when their country is inevitably left in financial ruin. Speaking of the idiot sister, Elsa KNEW that she had people who loved her and that they'd be heartbroken when she left. PD felt like the other Diamonds didn't care about her at all, and she wanted to be with people who loved her for who she was, not what she was. And when Elsa actually SAW the consequences of her actions, she still tried to run away because she was too scared to try and fix things. PD at least ATTEMPTED to fix the damage caused by Corruption, and she was gone before the Cluster was due to emerge, which lead to the Diamonds taking Steven.

Not at first. She hid away in her castle until she was forced to come back, at which point she escaped and attempted to run away, leaving her sister with the man she didn't want her to marry.

Also after corruption , the crystal gems never had visitors for thousands years so she believed that they left for good and she finally had love with human being , Greg.

Well , look. She waited so long , still was peace and calm so they thought homeworld gave up. Until she met person who treats really seriously, it was time for her, she wanted be part of human beings. She never predicted that it would happen later. Homeworld , gem stuff, lies.

Unfortunately, like you said,fate decided to screw up the peace she wanted to keep on earth and homeworld began to scout around the planet and over time, got Steven and the crystal gems eventually becoming a target of Blue and Yellow's wrath over Pink's "death", so hopefully from what the leaks showed us, it ends on peaceful terms ,till White appears properly.

That was ... our speechless, one of the greatest plots twists in the history of recent animations. I think everything has changed now, gone to another level, old theories confirmed and new being formed. On the one hand this was totally unexpected at this stage of the drawing, by another means that disenchanted some fans Rose Quartzoso never existed, there was never a revolutionary leader who wanted to end the tyranny of DIAMONDS and their cruel and selfish model to exist.
Not to mention that this ends up leaving us in doubt of the motivations of Rose Quartzo, pardon of the Pink Diamond, if you notice you will notice that now this is a kind of criticism of the heroes and their idealization, besides leaving things in a shade of gray , it's not all black in white. But that Rebecca managed to make everyone wonder what she left, what will the Crystal Gems do? What will Steven Universe's father think of the woman he always dreamed up?
For Gems it will be difficult to forgive and accept what the Rose Quartz did, especially for Garnet it will be very difficult for her to forgive the Rose Quartz, she was very affected by it. We saw in "Your Mother and Mine" how much she really idolized Rose Quartz. Finding out that her story was a lie and that Pearl's free will has been set aside to keep this lie going to hurt her a lot.
It will probably hurt even more to know that if she had been informed of the plan in advance, Garnet's future vision might have been extremely helpful in averting the approaching catastrophe (the corruption of the Gems by the other three Diamonds).
