I finally posted some Splatoon comic I had been working for a long time. It is only Part 1, it contain 19 pages in total. While in Miiverse I'll post one page per day and you'll guys get to see five pages being posted per day here in on deviantArt. ouob There will be Part 2 coming up. My friend FenikkusuSapphire will help me on the script and dialogue whenever she can.
Originally the comic will be using very little dialogue but when looking at it, speech dialogues are not always require. I was inspired by zzoza.deviantart.com , who did an amazing job with her Splatoon comic; excellent visual story telling without writing a single word. Basically, her story communicate with only movement, gesture and expression. I wanted to do something similar but I have a long way to go. XD Check out her stuff! ^^
And yup, I hope that you'll enjoy my comic. I’m confident in my art style in this but not so much in writing. But bleh, who cares! I’m no writer but an amateur one. I had fun with the comic though. XD Enjoy!

Ah, good ol' Arowana Mall. What an excellent map to start the comic on. X3 One of my personal favorites, heh.
I see this is a black-and-white comic. I understand how long and difficult it would take to color all of this, especially with the schedule you plan on uploading every part. I realize how difficult it must be already to put down whatever dialogue you need to, considering the size of the canvas, like you said previously. Again, you must also consider the personality of your characters, even the personality of the background characters, like these A-ranked players. It seems you made their personality pretty serious and battle-focused. It displays the conflict Kichona has with being the "only A- player on the team." In other words, even the smallest details can be the most important. It must make her feel pretty weak, like a liability on the team. Or she just doesn't really care what the others think of her. Is she shy or outgoing? I honestly cannot tell, looking back at her previous drawings. In these previous drawings, she reminds me of someone who is confident and kind of cocky, like a pretty decent fighter on the battlefield. I do understand that this comic takes place before and during Kichona meets Garnet. I wish to see more things in Kichona's perspective. I'd like to know what and how she's feeling.
I am slightly confused with the first panel, however. Is that supposed to be a foreshadowing or upcoming of future events? Like it's about to happen, or something? Whatever it is, it really intrigues the reader right away, so nice job there! Grabbing the reader's attention the first time around is always important!
Anyway, this is great so far! I still wish I could do something like this, but eh, I'll stick to writing/typing, heh. You can really feel the tension. I hope Kichona can do it and splat a lot on the battlefield! XD I'll help you with Part 2, definitely! I just need you to tell me what to assist you with, and I'll do it! ^^

Yeah, coloring would take up too long. I already spend at least an hour, or even nearly two hours for each page. Or maybe I draw slow. Lol :> But coloring, especially colouring the ink, would definitely help distinguish whether they are the team’s, or opponent’s ink. Hmm…this is what it’s like to be color blind. XD Yeah, I took your advice and added more dialogues this time. I also like the more “dialogue version” already. All Kichona’s teammate personality are more or less the same as you said, “serious and battle-focused”.
Lol I’m aware, Kichona can be very out of character in previous drawings. XD Except Splatoon 2, she meant to be a confident player. I don’t have a lot of OCs, so I often chose Kichona to experiment in different style and poses for my doodle. And she often represents as my “voice” in the Miiverse community ever since I created her (about a year ago). Like my persona even. So, doing the comic, it’s like it’s finally time to finalise and determine what my OC should think and should act. Kichona is shy, and as we can see here, she seems sensitive what other thinks of her. When one become like close friends with her, she’ll show her fun and mischievous side. A- is still a pretty good rank so Kichona does battle decently well, but heh, there are at times she can mess things up easily. :>
Yup, the first panel is the Cover Page for Comic Part 1. It’s a little sketchy (ugh, those hands again! XD) though. You’re correct, it does foreshadow something.

If coloring would really take you more time than two hours, I would suggest not to torture yourself and not color. Oh yeah, how are you going to distinguish the color of the teams with no color in the comic? XD That’s certainly a predicament if you don’t know how to distinguish without color. It’s especially more challenging with the minor characters, as the reader does not remember them enough to recognize their physical appearance. Remember, only add dialogue when necessary. It must be related to the plot and the characters. It must make sense. I’m realizing that this story isn’t exactly “plot-heavy,” but dialogue must be used, plot-heavy or not. Although, there are some scenes that do not need much dialogue, if any at all. The expressions and gestures of the characters can say it all.
Yeah, I had a feeling your previous drawings of Kichona were quote-unquote “out of character.” I knew she was, and still is, like your Inkling persona. Er...Inksona? X’p So she is outgoing moreso when you get to know her. Ah, so this comic must be her real introduction. I’ll love to see her personality more fleshed out, for sure. A- isn’t bad of a rank. Will she eventually reach a higher rank?
I realize the drawing is sketchy, but that doesn’t matter to me. It looks great! ^^ The Echolocator parallel is a nice touch! I didn’t realize that. Now I’m really intrigued!

And we barely get to see much of their teammates' role as they receive very little panels. Maybe I added a bit too much dialogue for the action scene, but I guess for now it's alright. I just need more experience. ouob

Action scenes can have dialogue. In fact, a lot of action scenes have plenty of dialogue. But a lot of it comes from the inner thoughts of the people fighting, or just from simple onomatopoeias like "Hmph" or "Ugh" and dialogue like that. It can also depend on the personality of the characters. For example, some characters like to talk, especially in a witty, sarcastic sort of way, like trying to mock their opposing fighter during the fight in order to throw them off. Although, I doubt neither Kichona nor Garnet are much talkers. So for the following action scene, you might as well just use onomatopoeias as your "dialogue." I can help come up with some pieces of dialogue, if you'd like. I do have experience with that. I can help.
Kichona, I believe, is fine with the personality that she has, but remember, always induce character development. Never stop developing your character(s). There is always room for character development, always. I like Kichona as a character. There honestly aren't many characters like her, not many characters that hide who they really are out of fear or embarrassment. Most characters are what you get. S rank is good! I try not to make my characters too OP, or OP at all. Amethyst is B+. Ruby was A-, but is now S. Navy is C- because she can't participate in any ranked matches. Sapphire is A+, so close to S. She knows how to fight well, whether it be with weapons or bare skin. Emerald is my only S+ player. Well, that's not true, because Tangelo is also S+, but Emerald is the only character I have who's S+99. Yes, S+99. XD He was trained by fighting experts at ISF for practically all his life. (In my headcanon, ISF were one of the first to develop the system of ink battles. They create nearly all of the licensed weapons used by all Inklings. They are in charge of the SquidForce brand as welll, go figure. XD) I really need to develop ISF more. Their writing needs work. Xd
The sketchy drawing looks fine. X3 (Oh, really? Well, that's honestly not a surprise, considering how much you love Tokyo Ghoul. XD I'm really liking it too! It's still on my mind. I really want to watch Season 2. X3) Ooo, another cover page? I can't wait to even read Part 2! Good luck with it. ^^
