Mr Grimes is often confused with Mr Bear from the creepypasta "1999", but unlike Mr Bear, who was a deranged satanist that used his shows as a way to lure and sacrifice children, Emerson Grimes actually started out as a rather sane individual that just wanted to adapt his favourite childhood book, "A Nickerbocker's Tale", into a children's TV show called "Candle Cove".

He saw himself as a revolutionary, wanting to create a fantasy land solely for children with the very little budget he had. But from different complaints of the show being too scary or risque for kids, along with production problems, and his own lapse in mentality, the show started to go downhill rapidly. There was an effort by the producers to end the show with a bang, and create a large-scale episode that wrapped everything up nicely and pleased the audience, but Mr Grimes had other plans.
Thus in his deranged state of mind, he shot the infamous "Screaming Episode". As the voice actor were made to scream in unison in the recording booth, Mr Grimes took it upon himself to destroy the set and many of the puppets, save for the main three characters.
According to one of the crew members, Mr Grimes was seen talking to the puppets in his room, having apparently "did what they told him to do", at which point, Mr Grimes entered a state of hysteria before falling back into a tangle of hanging cables, catching around his neck and strangling him. Mysteriously, his body was never found, though the eye witness was sure he had died.

Many years later, the insane director, now wearing the heads of one of the characters he destroyed as a mask, has returned to resurrect Candle Cove once again, and what better place to set up a studio than in the isolated town of Greenhaven...
