Finally done, woo~I can't seem to draw Caleb without making him at least moderately adorable. Oh well.
Made his hair a bluer shade of purple, liking it better than the more...purple-y...purple it was before.
Anyone who guesses the reference in the title (and also somewhat in the picture) wins a prize or something.
Spent the better part of a week on this, pretty happy with the results. (Foreshortening! Hands that aren't completely retarded!) Scanner butchered the colors as expected, touched those up a bit in Photoshop.
I really ought to do more traditional stuff, or at least more than sketches and doodles. Also, a light table and a fresh sheet of paper are the best thing for inking stuff, seriously.
Should probably get to finishing my three pictures for the Green Hill Games about now.
The original sketch has been moved to scraps for anyone who cares.

His outfit it actually one of my favorites out of all my characters'. Probably because a lot of my other characters have some variation of "jeans and T-shirt."

I'll throw a wild guess that this piece has something to do with Cirno from the Touhou Project; the icicles remind me of the design of her. I'm not sure about the title, probably a reference from one of the games I have yet to play, even though I've already downloaded them. >.>
Also on a related note, the only thing you've forgotten to do with this picture is adding lens flare. That alone would have made it the best thing you have ever done.

Thanks~ I started traditional, went almost completely digital after getting a tablet, and now I'm trying to balance the two a bit more. I also wanted a more recent traditional example for whenever I open commissions.
With colored pencils, the key is to go slowly, hold your pencils lightly, and build up the color in layers. What you also want to do is blend colors into the shadows. Just using black makes it look flatter. I mostly use dark purple, but you can use other colors depending on the base color, mood, and lighting. Complementary colors in particular tend to work well for shadows.

Sure thing. Really, art just takes a lot of practice. Also, I tend to keep some scrap paper around to test my colors and make sure they're blending the way I want them to before going onto the actual drawing.
