Description People voted, and character creation was the most requested. It was really hard for me to explain how I create characters and I tried to keep it basic..I really didn't know what to say. There are so many things you can take into account when creating characters that I just kept it focused mostly on the face and features.
Creating characters isn't exactly a science, it's creative, so the best thing to do is to just keep trying to create characters and develop them through time.

Oh, and even though this is anthro, the same methods (minus the animal reference part) can be used for people.

Questions, comments about creating characters always welcome. Your own tips are welcome too.

Hints and Tips: Color coming next as it was close to winning in the poll.

OMG!!! I've been asking several people to help me and only one comment came back. It helped, but not as much as this!!
-saves to faves-
thanks sooo much!!!
I don't have one question, do you have any tips on coloring, I like drawing traditional art better and am having a hard time finding anything useful.
Thanks!!
Great job!!

I have two traditional media coloring tutorials right now:

Both have watercolors in them though, and they are mostly about the process.

Also, I think this tutorial by Katmomma is really good in explaining general coloring using color theory: [link] It shows how she colored an apple step-by-step.

thank you very much!!! this helps soo much!
one more question, i don't have water colors but do you think that acrylic paints have the same ability as water color? or should i invest in a good set of water color paints?

Acrylics and watercolors are very different when you use them normally, but you can take acrylics and dilute them with water to make the paint thin. Then you can use them like watercolors and they look pretty similar. Be sure to use watercolor paper though. Acrylics dry really fast compared to watercolors, so you have to be quick if you want to blend them.

I'm surprised that nobody comments here yet. So let me be the first one lol.

First of all you did a great job, introducing the basic of character creation. I must say that looking for references is the most crucial part ever. If a person doens't know how to search for materials, then it'll be a hard job to design characters, not just the design but the personality.

It also takes practice to learn how to capture the character's personality too. Maybe a few sketches might help, right? xD

You really have a great tutorial! Bravo And excuse me for writing such a long comment lol. XDDD

Definitely, it takes a lot of practice to capture a character and sketches are really important. I'm thinking about rounding up some older drawings to show the development of the characters as they change over time.

Thanks for the comment!
