Description Vintage Puppy in my Pocket #1-24. I'm proud to be old enough to remember playing with and loving them.

Drew this a while ago because I couldn't stop laughing at the doodles of them I drew as a six-year-old. After I decided that I was happy with it, I started drawing more scenes with all 24 puppies in them (it can be pretty hard fitting all of them onto one page sometimes). Technically they belong to Milton Bradley, but I've given them all individual personalities (and birthdays and relationships and so on ...), so I kind of like to think of them as my own characters in a way. I can't claim the toys, but I did create their minds!

Order(if anyone's interested)- front to back, left to right:

Merlin (chocolate lab), Magnum (husky), Flint (st. bernard), Jemma (border collie), Meteor (jack russell terrier), Milton (german shepherd), Minty (pekingese), Dusty (irish setter), Zaney (basset hound), Bradley (dachshund), York (scottie), Champion (old english sheepdog), Kent (cocker spaniel), Cobra (boxer), Cliff (rottweiler), Scooper (irish wolfhound), Skat (corgi), Rook (dalmatian), Mo (sheltie), Winston (english bulldog), Junior (chihuahua ... mix), Jessie (yorkshire terrier), Darci (airedale), Sugar (poodle)

SQUEE!!

Adorable pic. :3 They look sooo cute and have real personality. I have all of these (except for Mo the Sheltie) and many more PIMPS, and I still play with them...at age 21. xD

Of the first 24 Sugar is my fave. I also love Scooper, York, Kent, and ALL of them! ^^

Also, Junior's a long-coated Chihuahua.

Thank you so much! I love when people write long comments like this~

Aww, I'm so glad to know more people have these guys! Oh, I remember Mo came in a special set with Zaney (I think), but it had a doghouse, too. ^^ Oh, when I'm 21, I'll still play with them, too! I'll never get sick of them or sell them.

Haha, Sugar is the one (in my 24) that seems to get picked on the most because she's a bit self absorbed ... Yes, ALL OF THEM ARE AMAZING!!

Oh, I know Junior is a long-haired chihuaua, but I didn't feel like adding that part in because they didn't on his little breed card. ^^

Actually Mo and Zaney came from different packs. Mo came with a dog kennel (along with a bottle and sleeping bag), and Zaney came with a doghouse (along with a food bowl, dog basket, and pillow).

Lol, I love these guys. I have all of the orginal pups and most of the second series. I also have many of the moms and newborn pups. I didn't really use all of the pups' orginal names or descriptions though. But that let me have duplicates of them too.

Zaney was my first one because she looked like my dog, Odie. She got me and my friend into the series.

Too bad the new version of them aren't as nice. Their heads are too big!

TsukiTsu In reply to funlakota [2010-01-05 20:34:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh ... I never realized that because I got Mo and Zaney at the same time. I still have most of those accessories you mentioned though (I definitely lost the bottle ... XD). So Zaney was your first? Awesome ... I had one of the newborn and mother sets ... Mimi the dalmatian, and that got me into them when I was four. I named all the puppies from those sets myself, but all my others kept the original names (I think I thought it was sacrilege to change them).

I completely agree. The new ones are more cartoon looking, and it's not in the most charming way by my standards. -_-

funlakota In reply to TsukiTsu [2010-01-06 00:03:30 +0000 UTC]

You sound like my cousin getting the dali set first. Except my cousin was born between the series, so she got hers in second-hand stores and ebay. She loved them too!

My first mom-and-puppy set was the collie. Then I got the poodle. I had to wait 3 months to get the dalimation and st. bernard because my mom got those for me for Christmas. Then a few years later I got one of the collie pups stuck in my brother's GI Joe tank, so I got a second collie set to replace it. My last mom-and-pup set came from the later series. It was either the cocker spainel, golden retriever, or english sheepdog set.

I have many duplicates of these pups, so I painted some of them. I made two of the cockers into springer spaniels. And I made a setter to resemble my English setter, Duke. They came out okay. I also painted my extra collie mom to look like a sable-and-white collie. I even took a blade to the chichi and yorkie to separate them from those accessories they were molded with. I always hated that they did that with some of them. >_<

If you can find extras of these guys, maybe you should try customizing them. It's fun! Just be careful with the paints 'cause they can come out sticky after they dry.

The fuzz they put on the new ones is also annoying. But those heads really throw me off! I also hate the new Littlest Pet Shop series for those bobble heads. That line already had slightly larger heads on some of the animals, and now it's even worse! >_<

TsukiTsu In reply to funlakota [2010-01-06 07:17:36 +0000 UTC]

Heh, now you can pretty much ONLY get them on ebay. *sigh*

That's kind of funny to me ... you had a collie set and something happened to one of the puppies, so you had to replace it. That very first set of dalmatians I had didn't last too long ... I played with them in the bathtub, and two puppies fell down the drain. I got another set to replace it and gave the extras to a friend. ^^

Oh, that's what my friend loves doing: customizing figures. I thought it would be fun to try (I don't have any PIMP duplicates, surprisingly), but I realized how lazy I was ... I didn't want to deal with the paints. I might try eventually, maybe with some of those tiny dog figures you can get in 50c machines. Oh, but I totally agree with that! I hated when the dogs were molded with accessories. It was cute at first, but when you're playing with them, it's weird to pretend they're running around when they're stuck to a giant shoe. DX

I was thinking about Littlest Pet Shop, but I wasn't going to bring it up because I knew I would rant. >_> I barely find any of those things cute ... most of them look depressed to me. Plus, their heads are enormous and look weird. I bought one set of the new Puppy in my Pockets, but I refuse to purchase LPS. The old ones were adorable.

funlakota In reply to TsukiTsu [2010-01-06 19:41:12 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I always made that yorkie into a soccer player because of her shoe! She also kicked the other pups around instead of biting them when they got into fights.

I was never too fond of the old LPS animals (they were too cartoony and I hated their magnetics and moving parts; I also fond that some of dogs looked more cat-like), but I absolutely loved their accessories. I used them with the PIMP animals. However in comparsion to the new ones, they were mild! And the new ones' accessories are not as realistic or nice eithr. I'd much rather the old sets.

I have a few of the new Puppy in My Pockets too. They were gag gifts. I want to get the mother-and-puppy sets... though they're too much for gag gifts. They're kinda of cute. ^^

Did you ever get into the second or later series of the PIMP line?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TsukiTsu In reply to funlakota [2010-01-07 05:20:57 +0000 UTC]

XDDDDD That's hilarious! I just tried to ignore the shoe when she was walking around with the others. >w< I don't think she was one of the ones of mine who got into fights ... I probably had poodle fights, though.

I only had one set, but my friend had a set with an adorable bobcat ... I think some of the dogs and cats of the LPS sets were a little too cartoony, but some of the others were really cute~ I agree, though, the accessories were great (I had some giant dogfood platter thing that I would always give to my favorite PIMP when all of them were eating. XD) But yeah, they were still much better than the new ones, and I feel like the accessories are weird. Not enough of them, either.

The new mother and puppy sets are actually fairly cute ... especially the ones that come with the treehouse or nursery. I was tempted to get one, but decided against it (because I bought a new PIMP castle and barely used it at all, even though I handed it over to my wonderful old PIMPs). I probably would have played with the set for an hour before deciding I was bored and stuffing it in my closet. XD

The most I got from the later series was several of the dogs and cats with sparkly accessories/shirt-thingies. Oh, and several animals with wounds that heal with warm water ... those were fun to play with! But I have pretty high up into the numbers (although there are some gaps in between) for dogs, significantly less for cats. Out of curiosity, did you collect kitty in my pockets too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

funlakota In reply to TsukiTsu [2010-01-07 16:11:19 +0000 UTC]

Not at first. I was more of a dog person as a kid. Plus I found that the kittens were not as nice. I never bought any of the sets, but I started getting them out of a gumball machine for 50 cents. ^^ I have about 5 from that machine. The only sets I bought were 3 mom-and-kitten sets, and that was because K-mart was having a clearance. The rest came from ebay auctions.

I have a mom-and-kitten set that came with bandaids, but their wounds never showed up in water (or without). That's fine with me; I prefer using my imagation for those things.

I saw some of the sparkle sets at K-mart, but they didn't appeal to me. Neither did the fantasy colour ones. Now I kinda wish I did buy them for customization.

Did you collect the Topps puppies too? They're really a late series of PIMP (you can tell by the British line), just that Topps had the rights to them. They came in individual packs (you couldn't tell what one you were getting) with a candy bone, a condensed booklet, a card, and stickers. They're really cute! All of mine came from a gas station on the way to school. ^^

Ah ... I was a both a dog and cat person when I was a kid, so I had both kitties and puppies (just a lot more dogs than cats). I never knew you could get them out of gumball machines ... I just bought the sets. And I really wish I had that PIMP hotel that I keep seeing on ebay. -_- Yeah, the sparkly sets weren't quite as charming as the originals, but I still bought a few sets of those. I remember really liking the cats with sparkly shirt-things on ...

You're actually not the first person to ask me that, but no, I never had any of the Topps puppies (at least I'm pretty sure). I do remember seeing them and thinking they were cute, but for some reason I never decided to buy any.

funlakota In reply to TsukiTsu [2010-01-08 16:31:19 +0000 UTC]

I had the puppy hotel (not the new one). I mainly got it because it came with the yellow lab, and I love yellow labs. I had little use for it, so I gave it to a neighbour's little girl (kept the puppy though ). I don't regret it. I kept the display case set that came with a tan-and-white bloodhound though. It's falling apart now.

Yeah, they started putting them in gumball machines around the time when stores stopped carrying the line. I guess it was the only way to get rid of the unsold sets. :/

I'm surprised other people even remeber the Topps puppies! They were only around for about a year before disappearing completely. My favourite one was a pointer pup who was covered in paintspots; it was an artistic puppy! For some reason, I don't think I ever got any duplicates despite not being able to see what pup was in each package.

TsukiTsu In reply to funlakota [2010-01-09 04:22:44 +0000 UTC]

So THAT's where Tracker came from! I always wanted that yellow lab, but I never found him in stores. Oh, I had the display case (and the kitty one too), and I still have both of them ... although the nametag stickers I stuck to the rooms weren't very well thought out. Some of the puppies can't even fit in the rooms I gave them. XD

The gumball idea saddens me. I would have gone searching for gumball puppies if I had known that ...

Oooo, surprise puppies! That would have been fun, but knowing me, I wouldn't have been satisfied until I had every one (which could cost a hundred duplicates XD). Was the one you're talking about Rainbow? That's the only one I remember by name.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

funlakota In reply to TsukiTsu [2010-01-09 23:05:18 +0000 UTC]

It took me forever to find Tracker too, and I really wanted him the most because yellow labs are my absolute favourite breed (or fave colour variety of fave breed). I had to beg my mom to buy that $20.00 to $25.00 set for me!

Yeah, that happened with me too when I gave some of the puppies rooms in that display case. All of the pups who were given rooms were the ones who I named after real animals I knew or were dogs my parents had as kids. Zaney of course got the one with the window shutters (because that was the place of honor ), and I didn't have Tracker or my lab Misty yet. You know that little room above the two rooms that had the door? I put Ghost in there (Ghost is the schauzer in a begging position from Series 2); the poor thing had to lay on its side to fit!

Sad that such a cute line of toys was reduced to supplying gumball machines. It wasn't bad for fifty cents. However they put in all animals figurines from that company, so you never knew what you would get. Sometimes it was a puppy; other times it was a kitty. I even got two teddy bear figurines from them! They were not real bears-- but teddy bears in dresses. Quite cute actually and painted very well. But not what I wanted!

I was like that too. I wanted every one in the Topps line, but it was daunting and a bit expensive. Mom got used to buying me a pack (or more if she was being generous) when we stopped for gas on the way to school. Then that station ran out, and since no one else had them, that ended that. They still had the wild animal packs, so I continued with them until they also disappeared. A few years later I learned that the Topps pups were actually from the same British company who made PIMP!! So when I bid on ebay auctions for my cousin's collection, I often recievced them too. But I got the most from an auction that labeled them as Topps puppies. Thank goodness for ebay!

I guess that puppy was Rainbow. I only remeber that she was a pointer who was owned by an artist and that she liked to splatter herself in his paints. She wore a little beret and had a paintbrush in her mouth.

TsukiTsu In reply to funlakota [2010-01-14 07:25:20 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, now I kind of wish I had that set. ^^

Hehe, place of honor ... I thought the big rooms that fit two puppies were the places of honor, and sometimes when I played with them, I'd give them to only one puppy so they'd feel extra special. X3 *bursts out laughing* You put Ghost in the tiny room! XD I put him on the very top for awhile, but then I realized that he had more room than anyone else, so I started putting my favorite (Merlin ... she still is my favorite ^^) on the top with the fence-thing that went around it.

I would've been disappointed to get teddy bear figures ... I didn't like bears at all when I was a kid. And knowing me, I would have wasted all my money trying to get ones I didn't have as I disregarded the pileup of repeats I had. XD

Hooray for eBay! Although everytime I browse the site and decide I want to add a few more puppies to my collection, my mom crushes my dreams by telling me how little space we have for more toys since it's hard enough for me to get rid of my childhood relics. -_- I really wish I had the attention span I had as a kid ... my games could go on for hours, but now it seems like I get bored after five minutes if I try to act out a game. *sigh* It would make me feel a lot less guilty about buying toys. XD

That's Rainbow! That was the only one I remember from the list of puppies when I checked out the site. ^^
