BTW, as it was mentioned, we (Russians) pronounce the word 'taxi' correctly, but we do have this problem with 'Texas'. When I've seen it in writen in English for the first time, I was really surprised, that it is 'Texas', not 'Tekhas'

Mm, if a Russian saw the word 'taxi' without knowing that 'x' is pronounced /ks/ in English and didn't know that it was the English word for taxi, then I could possibly see this happening. Otherwise, the Russian word for taxi is 'taksi', a direct loan word, so there really wouldn't be a problem...
