That's an old show. Back in the day, I used to anticipate this on the Cartoon Network. I wonder how far they went with that story?

It was one of the best cartoons ever! Well, the story was always a good versus evil fight where Jack typically ends loosing his way back to the past by a little bit. And as a lot of great cartoons it was cancelled prematurally. 
It was implied that the time for Jack to return to the past has not yet come while an image of what is implied to be an older Jack is seen at a portal; indicating that Jack is predestined to succeed, but it will take years for him to do so
