In 1966, ADAM WEST portrayed BATMAN on television for three years. It saved the comic book series, it saved the character, it may have saved DC Comics. Though the series was cancelled after just three seasons and one film, it has been in continuous air-play ever since and many a generation was raised watching ADAM WEST as the Caped Crusader. The singular performer who could be perfectly earnest to children while winking to the adults watching at home, Adam West was able to walk that tightrope in a perfect performance that is as fresh today as it was 51 years ago.

Born on September 19, 1928 in Walla Walla, Washington, Adam moved to Seattle with his mother at age 15. He graduated from Whitman College with a bachelor’s degree in literature and was soon drafted into the Army, where he served as an announcer for American Forces Network television. He worked as a milkman before moving to Hawaii to pursue his acting career.

Adam West died last week and this weekend we can finally give him the Daily Sketch Challenge send off he so richly deserves… this weekend you are challenged to draw ADAM WEST as BATMAN for about an hour!
