Description I absolutely love that Rayman Origins introduced some new palette swaps that kinda morphed into their own characters, and some of the most interesting ones were the three Evil Purple palette swaps you unlock late in the game, one of which needing every Electoon cage broken.

I've already drawn The First King, but I decided to make a small lineup that includes the other two evil ones and tackle their character designs as well.

Plus I imagine that during the events of Rayman Origins, Raymesis made his own team of heroes and was trying to stop the looming threat while Rayman was doing it too. Raymesis's logic was "If I beat this dumb bad guy impersonating the amazing Mr. Dark before Rayman, people will think Rayman is a loser and praise me instead!".

Glombrox, The Fallen
A hulking beast of a frog man, Glombrox was one of the original heroes of the Glade (Globox was even named after him!) alongside Mr. Light. When his companion fell in battle against The First Nightmare, Glombrox charged headfirst into The Land of the Livid Dead...and also failed, just like Mr. Light did. But his wounds were more dire, and Jano's Darktoons twisted him into a more corrupt, unstable form. Now he's a violent, powerful force that travels the world aimlessly as if looking for a heroic quest to cure him from his ailment and is prone to random, destructive acts of violence. He's sorta like a cryptid in a world already shaped by irregular magicks.
*Does not talk much. But don't mistake that for low intelligence; he was a frog of few words when he was a hero.
*Smells really bad because he eats like a garbage disposal. Someone has seen him devour a robot pirate once.
*Does not ally himself with anyone but made an exception with Raymesis. No one knows why. Raymesis just assumes it's because of his natural charisma.
*Although he's an incredible fighter with just his fists and mighty girth, he's also incredible with a battle axe and a claymore. He's been known to terrorize entire groups of Livingstones just by swinging around a fallen tree branch.

The First King of the Minimus
Rayman - The First King of the Minimus Β <= Talked about this cranky zombie here as well.Β
Known only by his title, this royal corpse was awakened when robot space pirates invaded The Tomb of the Ancients where he was buried. After spending several years in a mindless state as his soul gradually reattached itself to his corporeal form, only possible because of the high magical signature he naturally gives off, he wandered out of his crypt to find that the world had changed during his long dirt nap. He then decided to follow Raymesis mainly to catch up on the current events and also to keep an eye on the limbless creature radiating such malevolent energies.
*Doesn't recognize Polokus in his current form and has vaguely said "I liked him better as a tree" in response to it.
*Has made it clear to Raymesis several times that he doesn't like him. Raymesis doesn't care because he starts to tune him out as soon as he starts talking.
*Was once one of the most powerful casters of light magic in the Glade. Now is sadly merely "good" at dark magic.
*Doesn't need to eat or breathe or sleep. He's insufferable.

Raymesis, The Twisted Copy
Once named Bad Rayman, he was defeated during Rayman's early years and thought to be gone for good. Unfortunately, an evil double as strong as the spell that Mr. Dark cast wasn't going down so easily and he soon magically reformed with the abundance of Darktoons flooding the world. Now billing himself as The Nemesis of Rayman (or Raymesis for short), he's a petty, smug little brat that will one day prove the world that he's better than Rayman. No one knows how he even organized this ragtag group in the first place since he has none of the qualities of a leader.
*DarkRay and Shadow Rayman are not him, but both separate entities from Bad Rayman. It's complicated.
*Since he's a copy of Rayman, he understands the value of a good nap.
*Has a giant sweet tooth thanks to Candy Chateau.

Will Raymesis succeed in his goal with these two allies by his side?

....no, but hey, he had fun punching things.

They have the perfect team to do it. The First King distracts the clerk with a long-winded story about the old days, Glombrox smashes the candy jars and holds all the candy (and probably eats half the store, but the other two will get more than their fair share), and Raymesis gets to grab the candy and lead their daring escape.

I've only ever played the first Rayman (and even then...never got very far, because that game was HARD), so I don't know much about the lore. But yes! I love the idea of an evil Rayman doppelganger : D

Man, if only Rayman 1 wasn't so hard, because the evil Rayman doppelganger showed up in that very game!
...you just had to collect every single cage in order to even see him, a task too great for most of the people playing that game. Why was Rayman 1 so unforgiving, gah.

As for Rayman, he now has, if you don't count Raymesis and Bad Rayman as the same character like I do, about five evil doppelgangers and it's pretty great. He's almost like Sonic in that regard!
But there is seriously two distinct characters named Dark Rayman, a Shadow Rayman, and a Bad Rayman. Rayman lore is a plate of spaghetti in terms of how tangled the plot threads are, I love it.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM~! I love these. So much. I think it just might be my new headcannon. (Raymesis is my favorite!) I really like the backstories and designs you gave them!

Sorry for the late reply, but thank you! I'm really glad that a lot of people in the comments are liking my headcanons for these three and are being reasonably entertained by them.

I kinda love that these three characters are paired up so naturally together, even if what we know about their personalities seems like such an alliance would be incredibly unlikely, since one is clearly not evil and one is more of a big stinky frog with no real alliances. Plus I just really wanted to flesh out my Raymesis who isn't all doom and destruction but rather a bit of an aimless rogue who is a super big jerk with some level of danger but doesn't really have the motivation or the drive to really take anything over. But boy is he smug about it.

Yeah! Makes me want to make my own versions right now!

Yeah, they really just "click", despite not getting along as characters. They seem to just "rough it" together. Which is what I like. I like your more fleshed-out Raymesis being a creepy, cruel, and unhinged freak whose really just an envious brat deep down. (Smug Raymesis I love it~)

Great job you did here pal!
Is there also a dark version of either Barbara or Ly the Fairy? Like Darkara or Lyssa the Dark Fairy? (I know there aren't in canon, i was thinking more like in an AU sense.)

I'm not sure if the first king is registered as a nightmare like the other 2 in canon.

Turquoisephoenix In reply to bcrbuio3tvrbvt [2019-08-27 02:32:57 +0000 UTC]

None of them are nightmares or were ever established as nightmares in canon. When nightmares are talked about, they usually mean the creatures spawned from when Polokus has a bad dream or whatever lurks in the Cave of Bad Dreams, not so much the evil dopplegangers.

Also The First King has been paired with the other two before even though he has more benign descriptions than the other two. This Halloween video from UbiSoft was how these three costumes were introduced, with them mirroring the four playable characters you start out with at the start: www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2KXxG…
