I moved toward the the target. I was nearly on top of it now. I looked around. There was nopony in sight. Then I looked up. I saw a very bright blue hoof hanging over the edge of a small outcropping. The outcropping was about two stories off the ground, and another two from the top.

"Hey!" The electric blue hoof didn't move as I circled around it, keeping my eye on my EFS. That was the target. I picked up a small rock in my magic, about the size of a pre-war bit, and threw it up at the pony. There was a groan and the hoof receded back into the outcropping. I threw another stone. This time, there was a response.

"Oh...Hello?" A mare groaned back. "Is somepony down there?" Her voice sounded very dry.

I heard some shuffling and a mare stuck her head over the side. She appeared to be laying on her side as she moved to the edge. Here mane was a much lighter blue, almost white. It was looked a bit messy, too. --Excerpt from chapter 4, Wasteland Friendships [link]

Tesla (most just call her Tes) is Xero's first companion. She's an earth pony from Stable 59. 59's experiment was/is a rigid social status system (a caste system, pretty much) based on race, with unicorns on the top, earth ponies on the bottom, and the occasional pegasus in between. This didn't sit too well with Tes, since both her parents are unicorn supremacists. Her father abusive and her mother didn't love her. Other earth ponies thought of her as being 'snooty and haughty, just like the rest of the horn heads' and unicorns obviously thought of her as a lesser equine, a 'stupid little dirt scrubber'. The only ponies that did show any affection were Magneto (her grandpa) and Sparky (a unicorn who's parents were earth ponies that believed in the earth pony way).

When ever she wasn't being flogged by the stable's enforcer drone (earth ponies aren't allowed on the unicorn deck, where Tes lived, but who cared, right?), abused by her mind warping father SoaB, or running away from bullies, Tes could be found reading old terminal entries, hacking into the stable's maneframe, or building things to keep it's failing power generator running.

After Sparky was killed (cross-race relations was also a no-no), Tes tried to end it all by jumping from the top floor of 59's atrium. She nearly died, but was rescued by Lockheart, the stable's resident MedDroid (Medical-Android). Lockheart sacrificed herself to save Tes by allowing her body to be used for internal cybernetics. Of course, this really pissed most of the surgeons off (since they, too, were unicorns). However, due to Lockheart being the head-practitioner, they obeyed. Rather than replace the body parts that needed to be, they cut corners and just dumped Tes' mind and brain into Lockheart's cybernetic one. It's unknown if this caused or is causing any issues for the young mare, though.

Tes decided she had enough of the stable's sick and perverse methods and took her chances in the wasteland. Her aimless journey was cut short when she was chased off a low cliff by a group of ghouls that had taken residence in the stable's entrance.

Xero found her on his way back to Starward from New Appleoosa.

Tes has a bit of a complex personality (mentally unstable, self-destructive, depressed, and minutely bipolar). She's fairly quiet and speaks only when necessary (usually). The effects of constant abuse in the stable left her completely terrified of unicorns and robots. It was only the kindness that Xero showed by saving her that she didn't instantly run away from him. No one knows why she's currently following him, other than she has nowhere else to go.

She's incredibly smart, having built her own custom laser pistol from old spark-reactor parts, a magic fusion cutter, and laser rifle parts. No terminal is safe from her hacking skills, either. And strangely, she has a bit of a knack for medical related things.
