Description Been a while since I entered a contest, and this was a lot of fun to work on. This is 's OC Amalika Cooney, who I must say has changed quite a bit over the years. If you look at her newest reference sheet VS the old one, there's been quite a few changes. Quite a bit of progression in artist skill too. Congratulations to Ama for growing so much in the years I've known you, and I hope you all will wish me luck in her traditional art contest.

Sketch Contest - Win a 1 Year Premium Membership![UPDATE2] Just a reminder that this contest ends in 38 hours from the time I update this journal. Don't forget to show me your entries on time! ouo

[UPDATE1] My guess is that most of you who were interested in taking part didn't finish a sketch yet due to busy Christmas days, but I still wanted to leave a reminder that this contest is ending in one week! And since there are zero entries so far, you basically have a 100% chance of winning at the moment ;D

Remember the journal from yesterday? Forget that, I have a better idea now - I want to give someone a 1-year premium membership, and what fairer way to decide on that than hosting my very first contest!
The contest is about drawing a sketch including one of my characters, or even several of my characters. To those who don't know them so well, I will shortly introduce all of my characters below after going more into detail about the contest here:

First of all, thank you very much for taking part in this contest!
You know, your picture is one of those where it really hurts me I couldn't give more prices away ;o; I have to admit your sketch surprised me positively, as I see you improved quite a bit yourself! The idea is certainly very creative, seeing how Amalika transformed over the course of years. Even gladly accepting the change as if to say "on to new adventures", judging from her expression, which also fits her personality >u< Your idea was definitely one of the best ones in this contest - very original >u< So a compliment to that one uvu And while this is a very cute and creative entry, I think there is still one or the other aspect that could make your sketches even better ouo For example I like how you defined her arms so it becomes very obvious were the upper and lower part of her arms are - instead of just drawing straight lines, like some people do o: I think you need to be a bit careful with the length of the arms, though, because the one pointing upwards is a tiny bit long o: Her face is also really cute, by the way >u< Her eyes look totally pretty, and her hair also turned out neatly. In relation to her body her head looks a little bit big, but with a cute face like this, I think I can excuse that What I also like is how you put effort into toning this sketch, showing which parts are darker than others, as that really enhances the look of this sketch a lot! ^^ I think that could also be improved a bit if you drew the lines in one direction like you did with her black hair or that glove on top, instead of choosing multiple directions in some parts.
All in all this is a really lovely and definitely very creative entry, the idea being one of a kind >u< I wish you could've also won a price, but eventually felt that another entry was ahead by a tiny bit. Still, I can definitely see a lot of improvement from you and if you keep going like that, then you definitely have a lot of potential! o: I'm looking forward to seeing how far you can go in the future And if I have any contests in the future, I'd love to see how much progress you made until then >u< So once again thanks for taking part in my contest, your entry was a lot of fun to look at

Thanks for your kind words! I really tried hard to use hatching and cross hatching in this piece, so some areas with those lights and darks I do still have trouble with, but you know what they say black and white is easier than color. : P But again thanks so much for what you said it means a lot.

In my opinion it was still a really good idea to use hatching and crosshatching! ouo And after all, you can't get better at something if you never try, right? I'm no expert at these things myself, but I hope that my comment still managed to give you some insight. ^^
