Description Hooray it's a close up of a seagull! I got quite a few nice shots, didn't get to see any pelicans ;_;
I really like this close up, I am learning how to use my new camera well

Hope you all enjoy

**EDIT**

25/04/09

Well it didn't look great so I tried to fix it. Didn't do much but at least it doesn't look too over exposed

I hadn't seen this photo prior to the changes made, but this looks fantastic. Seagulls are normally thought of as ugly birds, at least in North America, but you have captured this in a beautiful way. Very good detail and great colour.

just bewd-full!

could drop the ISO to 100 and then open up the apature so u dont have 1/4000 of a second

but who cares, it looks gorgeous!

Hehe well I put it on the Av setting like you suggested but I forgot to even look at the ISO so it was still on 1600 but despite that it still came out really well

Thanks for the critique

Woah that's a really fat seagull... what have you guys been feeding it...
I know I'm a newb when it comes to photography but what's with the ISO thingy? Couldn't you just set everything on auto and edit the photo later in Photoshop?
(I'll probably get burned fairly quick on this one, but that's exactly what I do... )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TVD-Photography In reply to 1337www [2007-01-31 11:34:35 +0000 UTC]

They feed themselves I guess. I think it looks fat because it was cold and windy

ISO is a setting that does something I can't rememebr
No seriously the ISO helps with lighting conditions. Because it was an overcast day, I did not need the ISO so high, I just forgot to look at it and take it into account

I could have done everything on auto but there is no skill in that

TVD-Photography In reply to Teh-ShadowMan [2007-01-30 10:51:50 +0000 UTC]

Well that's what I meant, I saw them far away but didn't really get to see them

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Teh-ShadowMan [2007-01-29 13:28:14 +0000 UTC]

The answer Ms Z is because I was shooting at night and had the camera set at that speed to alleviate the need for a flash. (refer to my acct later this week to see why)
Miss TVD was obviously using my last setting, it did however give her a nice sharp crisp image.

Zarafa [2007-01-29 12:02:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow, you were close to that little fella! It is his nostril pumpkin (and you sure focused well on it too - never seen a nostril so clearly before! )

A question - why did you shoot at ISO1600?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TVD-Photography In reply to Zarafa [2007-01-29 12:04:52 +0000 UTC]

Well I have never seen a seagull nostril that close before

An answer - I don't bloody know what I'm doing! What should it have been on? I put in on the Av setting like Jez suggested to me to start me off
I'm still learning

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

TVD-Photography In reply to TVD-Photography [2007-01-29 12:11:35 +0000 UTC]

Mr Shadow has been explaining ISO as well
I still don't do everything fully, I just zoom and focus really and make it look like I can do it all by my little self
Thanks for the tip, I will have to try and do that next time

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Zarafa In reply to TVD-Photography [2007-01-29 12:08:39 +0000 UTC]

Hehehe! Noice answer It depends on the light, but I would suggest no more than ISO400 in low daytime light, and if it is nice sunny day ISO200 or 100 even. I am still learning too - there is sooooooooooooooo much to learn It's fun but!

I've never seen a seagull nostril that close either - it's cool
