Description
For this contest and the theme presented, I chose to look at the obstacles Kubo will face after his "hero's journey" has ended. He has made peace with what he has lost and has become stronger because of it. He has gone through his journey of self-discovery and now he must carry the weight of expectation and motivation.Without his friends and family, he battles the new obstacles thrown at him solo. The dragons represent a new foe presented before him each representing doubt when having to overcome an obstacle by yourself. They come swirling all around us with one following right after the other and seemingly too large to possibly defeat. This illustration is meant to show the courage to battle something larger than yourself, even when fighting that battle alone.

This contest was challenging for me to do a more dynamic, colorful, composition heavy piece. While I still can learn more in this regard I had a great time with my friends working on each of our entries together! Good luck to the other artists entering and I look forward to seeing the results!

Two words. Fucking epic!!! It's a shame that Travois Knight is not instead making any sequels to any of his films from Laika because I do see Kubo having protential for another story on his way to adult hood. I know most of the time sequels aren't as good as original but if you put time and effort in to it you might get a good concept for one. I had idea for a sequel where Kubo upon getting older is trying to rebuild his father's dynasty and in order for him to do so he has to retrieve his missing left eye that his grandfather took from him and since Kubo turned him mortal he has no recollection on where he hid it. Now Kubo has to go on another epic journey to seek the location of his missing eye and on the way he comes across a new group of characters to join him on his quest such as a Kappa who is longing to become human so that he can become Samurai to fight alongside Kubo and a female fox spirit who is a secret admire towards Kubo. Back to picture I some what like to think that the dragon is Orochi since I'm huge nut for Japanese culture.

well, actually, I watched this movie and quite Impressive with the animator, arts ... but I have never thought someone else can create these best arts as they did. Love your amazing work so much

Yes indeed, Kubo's battle is not yet done but at least he has his grandfather and his village to stand by him as an emotional rock so he may overcome these challenges.

This reminds me so much of when one of the Sisters says that she's battled creatures that could fit the world on their fingertips. I can totally see Kubo fighting a beast like this.
