Description Created with Apophysis 2.05.

I don't know what was happening, but 2.07 wanted to render this one really slowly (45 hours), so I switched to 2.05 and it shrunk the time to 12.

So yeah, I really wanted to explore this style again and play around with glow. The size dimension is wacky, but I think it works out here. As always, though, I'd love to hear what you think of this.

Comments and critiquing greatly appreciated.

great piece here...a few thoughts...

first, I think the narrow vertical crop works really well here and it actually serves to make the composition more expansive than it would feel if you made it more square shaped.

the use of light in the background and shadows in the foreground nicely convey a sense of major depth and also helps to "unclutter" the sheer quantity of the organic shapes...

there is a nice sense of movement which helps encourage extended viewing, and the choice of colors as well as the softness of their tones gives the work more of a hand drawn illustrated feel, something that can typically be lacking in fractal art. As a result it is a much warmer piece...

good work!

Thank you very much! Most people who do fractal art do not use these types of elongated size dimensions because the viewers tend to lose interest when scrolling down. I'm glad someone liked it.

Thanks for the critique, I appreciate it.

So, the path to enlightenment is apperantly long, twisting, and tastefully lit I find the colors and resolution very well fitted to this piece. The earthy tones do very well to portray paths, and the quality, shade, and direction of the light seems natural. Lovely job

On a side note (WARNING! Borderline shameless self promotion), if I had done my piece Sand Waves right, it might've looked somewhat like this. (WARNING! No longer borderline, it is now blatent). Please keep in mind that the comments in this side note were said for humor. For anything else, refer to my sig

Haha, I've done self-promotion as well before, so don't worry. Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it.

I like this style a lot. I can't really suggest any improvement. The lighting and forms are wonderful.

What a big size...Now I know why did it take so much time to render.
However, this is very nice. I really like it.

I really wanted to choose the big size because I wanted to engulf the viewer into the picture.

Eh, for this size, it shouldn't take that long. I was surprised when it said 45 hours. So I tried an older version of Apo and it cut time considerably.

Yeah, but 12 hours aren't that short. However, it did work. You got me amused with this one

Haha, that's really funny. I know a lot of people keep their renders to 2-3 hours, but mine usually take 8 hours or more. I think I'm a quality-holic or something.

I think so. But that's has its results, people really get involved in your art. It ends up being amusing

Mine is...different.

It's actually a hacked version with no expiration date.

I like it, but some things bother me a bit. The think dark brown "ribbon" (if you could call it that) nearer to the top than the middle is almost too dark. It kind of separates the fractal into two disjoint sets. Pardon my geometry terms I do love the points of light at the top and bottom, they give the viewer something to look forward to, in a sense. All in all, hardcore eye candy!

This is to symbolize that there are actually multiple paths to take rather than just one winding path.

TwilightAmbiance In reply to Rockferd [2008-03-23 21:22:46 +0000 UTC]

Most people call it Slipped Disc. I don't really have a name for it. To make a general fractal like this, set your first transform to have Gaussian_Blur and Julian only. Then, add a second transform with Rings 2 on it. Leave transform 1 where it is and just move around transform 2.
