The movie is actually based off the books Guardians of Childhood, written by William Joyce.
There is a fifth book coming out actually, which I hope to buy the whole collection when it does,
as I haven't read them yet and most of my info has come from WIKI and fan fiction.

I too have only seen the movie, but with WIKI and fanfics I've learned a lot more
about the information that are in the books and the stories behind the characters.
(Pitch's backstory is rather sad and it only makes me like him more as a character)
So yeah, if you get the chance read the books, I know I plan to when they come out
