Description
210 million years post-seeding, a school of organisms known as mouhry are making their annual migration to warmer waters in gradual pursuit of algal blooms which bring with them shoals of consumers off which these organisms feed.
Mouhry are part of the large group uptipnea, relatives of the zooplanktonic aconticorans, these aquatic organisms are descended from maggots and defined by their use of forward jet propulsion, although groups within uptipnea use jet propulsion to varying degrees. Uptipnea is generally split between gelatinous and harder-bodied forms, taking on niches typical of invertebrates and fish respectively.
Mouhry and their relatives are somewhat analogous to whales, though as members of the broad uptipnea group commonly known as rocketers, they rely more heavily on jet propulsion than body-driven swimming (what most aquatic vertebrates on Earth use). In the process of jet propulsion, water is taken in through a hole near the organism’s head and absorbed through the skin of the back, being expelled out at the tip of the tail through two holes which can release water independently for dexterity in locomotion. Mouhry, like many rocketers, possess a vague quadrilateral symmetry with their fins, which can reach a span of 4.5 meters (~15ft). They feed with two tentacles that remain wound together while swimming to minimize drag.
There will be more posts regarding uptipnea and their anatomy in the future.
