Tiago ran for their own gate. People around him, confused by the sudden motion, also seemed to sense something was going on, and as Tiago reached the man guarding the gateway, the masked man was ready for him. He saw the crossbow come up, saw the man’s finger flex over the release, and then—
He saw the ground.
Another hostage, in trying to dodge Tiago (or more likely the imminent crossbow bolt) snagged his boot in their own haste. Tiago didn't even stumble, simply fell flat on his face.
