ya, she could walk right out of a 40's B-movie plot ...... or, I could walk right into one. Let's see... she was just walking into the nightclub when it happened. I mean, ya don't expect a doll lookin' like dat to be in a nightclub in the middle of the day. In fact, ya don't expect anybody to be in Hank's in da middle of da day. 'causen dat place closes down at dawn and they practically sweep the place up with the drunks. But dis dame, she ain't never had a job at a joint like dis, see. She come over from the secretary pool. Boss saw her at a bus stop 'bout a week ago. Said she could make in tips in one night what she busts her butt over in dat office for an entire week. See the boss, he's got an eye for 'em, ya know? Spots 'em right away, he does. Wants 'em fresh and such. Says the customers know when theyr past prime. So this one, Haley I think they called her, ya, that was it, Miss Haley Bennett, pretty sure, she not having a clue, comes over midday and tries the front door in a dress she just walked out of Bergdorff's dressing room in. Price tags stickin' out the back an' all. So Miss Bennett walks around to the alley and steps right in--causin' they keep that door open all day for deliveries--only she wazn't post ta be dhere--just as Hank was pullin' his .38 out his coat and blew dat skuzbag Randy James brains all over the bar, while Miss Haley waz standing practically right behind him... and seen the whole thing.. So when she stepped back out into the alley, and saw it blocked suddenly by a delivery truck, she was kinda trapped, see. But not before Hank had turned around at the sound of those heels she was wearing and watched her pretty figure go click click right back out the door, and knew in an instant what had to be done. Only he sent me out to do it.
Yeah, I get da tough jobs, da messy ones, and any of da ones da boss don't want to do himself.. And so there she was standing... lookin fresh so fresh... but kinda frozen, ya know? And by the look on her face I could see she was in a real pickle. Like in the blink of an eye her dreams of a new life and enough money for a place of her own had just gone up like the smoke from Hank's .38 special in the back of Randy James head. Say, I'm runnin a bit late, onna counta I had to, ya know, clean things up, but today I usually go over to Sharkey's for the roast beef. They do it fresh on Thurday's, ya know. Common and join me and I'll finish the story. Ya never had the roast beef at Sharkey's? Oh man! ya gonna love it. Common, the first one's on me.
