Description Constrcutive critism would be really apreciated with this piece. I've spent quite a bit of time on it. The background was, originally, going to be used in a looping animation but my sanity put it's foot down on that idea. I'm most pleased with the floating islands, last time I did something like that it was a disater and so never wound up here.

This is magnificent! I love the movement and action throughout. It really keeps me interested. I only think there should be a tad bit more emphasis put on the gryphon-like creature, it almost seems to have the same amount of impact as the rocky mass towards the bottom.

Whoa amazing. I like the concept here, with the strange circle structure and the floating islands. The griffin and flying creatures are a nice addition to this piece.

I think the concept was inspired by a piece of art somewhere on DA and a kids show called 'Skyland'. That show has absolutely gorgeous floating landscapes.

Mostly when I hink of floating islands I think of three things: Roger Dean's artwork, the moon of Pandora and Skyland. That was a pretty cool show.

Thanks for Roger's name. I know some of his artwork but couldn't remember who did it.

What do you mean? It's supposed to be doing a backflip through the ring.

oh i see. What i missed is that i couldn't see the second talon/arm. It blends too closely with the wing. So when i only saw one i thought it was a weird antler or something.

wonderful - it has that fantasy feel but also the sci-fi feel

It was inspired by Skyland I think, which is a fanatasy/sci-fi show.

Though this isn't really my type of thing, I will say it's awesomely drawn. I would suggest though (and this is just my opinion), emphasize more blues and greens into it. but I also like darker, more eye popping colors.

I wanted this one to be in pastel colours. I've never really been a fan of 'in your face' colours. Unfortunately I can't really do to much to this picture as my tablet recently broke.

ok (= I like it none the less, like I said even though it's not my style of art, it's very well drawn.

Looking through your stuff you really do have some wonderful imagination I gotta tell you!

The only thing I would have to say would need improvement is color. I like your color scheme, but what is it that you could do to make it more vibrant?...more alive? Right now the colors are a bit on the dull grayed out side. Especially when you have such an awesome atmosphere, remember that colors gray out the farther back you get. Here I feel like it is all grayed out.

Other than that I love this, it's different but in a good way, a far away place that we just want to go to!...er...me anyway. Keep up with the imagination there! You really got somethin'!

I love Sky Track - wonderful concept.

As for critique - I'm very new at this and would not begin to offer advice. But I work professionally in another art form in a position which I often describe as "paid audience" so from that perspective let me tell you what my brain saw the first time I looked at this piece: flying islands with white church steeples and a rat with wings.

I don't mean that to sound negative, let me reiterate I really like the piece. I thought the rat was cute - but it took me awhile to see the beak. Don't griffens have eagle heads? Seems to me making the head more eagle-like might make for a stronger myth experience. The white "arrows" really pull the eye - maybe dampening them down a bit would improve the piece. And I agree about a definite light source.

But look at my avatar - I'm hardly the person to be giving technique advice (although I'm pretty right on as an audience )

It's a fun piece, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the tips. Gryphons are only traditionally eagle-lion. There's nothing in the rules to say they can't be modified. After all, I have a pidgeon-numbat gryphon in my gallery.

Beautiful work! The colors are just wonderful! As far as critique goes, I would have to agree with some of the other comments that a stronger light source would enhance it. I don't want to sound like a teacher or anything cause that's something I am struggling with too!

brilliant~!
it's a bit hard to tell that the griffin (griffin?) is being seen from below, that's all... i guess you could add in some lighting, but really i reckon its great just the way it is XD

Typthis In reply to zefiraelRain [2009-03-12 20:46:00 +0000 UTC]

The problem with the griffon may be in part due to me constantly rotating and flipping the image whilst drawing.

kitikek [2009-03-08 21:36:08 +0000 UTC]

It's a cool concept. I think that having some clear light source would make it seem more alive--you already have a lot of motion, but it seems just a bit flat. One thing I've noticed with my work is that if you can fit a few very bright highlights in along with some darks, it adds more depth and dynamic than with just a small range of values. Also, placing some more gryphons or people on the islands would add to the sense of scale.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Typthis In reply to kitikek [2009-03-09 20:33:59 +0000 UTC]

The pteranodons were intended to make up for the sense of scale.
I don't think I'll toy much more with this one but the idea of better contrast I've used in finishing up my latest picture.

Thanks for the advice.
