Description It's that time of the year again! Time for the Tricked out pony contest! This year was Stone's Arab model. I was hoping for something a little more.... dynamic, but Stone and Dynamic usually don't go together. Ah well. This pose worked with my idea, at least.

This is Pyre, the phoenix. Uncreative name, I know, but I was pressed for time, and my brain went dead on my naming abilities. Not my very best work, I know, but I'm still almost satisfied with the results.

This pony will be auctioned off sometime in November on ebay. Part of the proceeds goes to charity! Read more about the Tricked Out Pony contest here:

EDIT: Took 6th, which if you look at the site, I don't get why some of them placed how they did. Anyway, PYRE is on EBAY:

Go bid on him to tell everyone that he should have placed Higher!

Anyway, I absolutely love this guy!

Gorgeous! The tricked-out pony contest sounds fun, but I wouldnt stand a chance, I cant even do a standard custom! I will stick to looking at your fabulous models!!! I love the colours on this one especially!!!

tyreenya In reply to Equus-Lupus [2007-02-19 17:14:36 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much for the compliments!

TOP is a Blast!! You should do it anyway :} Its a lot of fun to do, and part of the proceeds go to an animal organization. They divide it up among age and for the adult division into two categories. Then they judge on several different levels, including how "tricked out"/unique it is. So you do still stand a chance :} I entered into the Adult Professional category because I have sold my models before.

It's a lot of fun, and I encourage you to do it when next year's info pops up! In the meantime, practice practice practice! I see you already have a knack for painting ponies (Darcia) :} Keep it up!

Yeah, I was inspired by a drawing I did (will post it one day!!!) and she was a poor scratched pink and silver unicorn a bit tattered from her play days then spending a couple of years in a bag with some other 'bodies'! So I decided to give her a new look, and a new name to replace 'Krystal' which just doesnt work anymore! My problem is I havent got enough to practise on! Breyers are hard to find cheap over here, and Im worried about buying a more decent body then turning it rubbish and having wasted my money! Not that I have much to spend anyway...maybe one day I will try, maybe get some where too, but at the moment I will stick to a flatter canves and the oddd practise! I do actually have...4 bodies that need painting, all breyer ready prepped ones!!! Im so lazy!!! hehe! Anyway, thanks for the support (Im sorry for the essay of a reply!!!) and I will keep practising, and being creative! And watching what goes on!!! It certainly does sound fun, and all the entries are cool to see!!! Thanks again!!!

wow! no wonder that was one of the winnners! congrats! its sculpted so detailed-what do you use?

I looked all over the site for some information on how to enter the competition-if it is still possible to enter I want to sign up-could you drop me a link if its still available

tyreenya In reply to chaifox [2007-01-03 18:47:19 +0000 UTC]

aww, thank you!

I wasn't too happy about its paint job this time around- I rushed it a lot.

I used Ave's Apoxie sculpt, which unfortunately can only be found online. Its air hardening and doesn't shrink. I used to use Sculpy III over a candleflame, which was a paaaaaaaaain in the butt, and was hard to set right.

I think Sheryl will have the new contest info up soon.

Here's the link: [link]

just keep watching that site. She'll put up new info on it soon..I hope.

oh, its definately worth it!

I recommend trying the small container first to see if you like it. you can always order more if you do :} It takes some getting used to, so don't get discouraged.

daaaaang this is amazing!
The paintjob is fabulous, seriously, it looks like it's glowing, I don't know if that's because of the flash or something, but it looks great. The details on the feathers are wonderful, and the back feet look great!

Well good luck!

how do you change it like that... it mystifys me... i wanna enter but... i diont know how to do that to a pony and make it look like it was that way originally.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tyreenya In reply to cinnibon [2006-10-09 19:30:01 +0000 UTC]

It took a lot of practice to get where I am with the breyer customs. But The TOP contest is for all skill levels, and is judged on creativity, not how skilled you are. Take a look at the gallery (and past years galleries) of the tricked out ponies. Some entrants didn't change the position or didn't add much to it. Some were just painted differently, and that's ok too! That's what makes it so fun, is you can do and add whatever you want to it.

I saw a really cool one once that was covered entirely in rhinestones. They didn't change anything on it other than that, and it was really neat. I saw anotherwith broken china plates. There was another that was decorated in icing (then heavily coated in protective coating). That one had to be one of the best ones in the group!

The contest is pretty much over this year, but I encourage you to look into it next year! You can even practice on other model horses in the mean time :}

wow... i saw the gallary, but what do you use to alter it? i normaly use super sculpy, but i dont think that will work on a breyer horse. it would melt in the oven.

im pretty good at sculpting myself, i just want to kow the materials you use so i may get started myself.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tyreenya In reply to cinnibon [2006-10-10 01:12:47 +0000 UTC]

I used to use Supersculpy, believe it or not! I would heat set it over a candle flame. You can also heatset sculpy by boiling it too. You have to be careful doing it wither way. You can stick them in the oven, depending on the model and size.

Now I use Ave's Apoxie Sculpt (do a google search to find places that carry it). Its on the expensive side, but I think its worth it.

Others, I think use Gapoxio, which you can find on the Rio Rhondo web site.

I'm sure though, that you can use any other air hardening clay too, though you might have problems with the clay shrinking a bit. I'd say experiment

wow! i diddnt know that!! im having trouble getting a wing to stay on a sculpture of mine... how do you use the boiling method?? im so interesed... i knew it was water resistant... but boiling it! INGENIOUS!!

tell me ho to do that!! mabie i can finally get the wing to actually say on!!!

apoxy sculpt... ill have to try that...

i never use air dry... it crumbles too easy.
