Description
The Fanged Wyvern introduced in Portable: 3rd, Zinogre is one of my favorite monster designs in the franchise to date. The idea of an aggressive creature that slowly powers itself up and becomes gradually more dangerous was a unique idea. Combined with the acrobatic flashy moves, Zinogre seemed to be designed with style in mind. I always enjoy fighting them since you have to be on your toes and the fight is non-stop with a melee weapon. Monster Hunter: Ultimate introduced the first subspecies, Stygian Zinogre. Incorporating many of the same moves as its cousin, Stygian added homing projectile arrays and a debilitating Dragonblight status to its attacks. Where the normal variation could be a challenge if taken lightly, Stygian Zinogre left little room for error and was a solid entry at the G-rank level of quests. I have a hard time deciding which species I like more. The contrasting teal and white of the vanilla version is distinct, but I also really like the white and red charged lightning color scheme of the subspecies. For the faces here, I used a fairly neutral expression for Zinogre and a rage-state for Stygian. I also thought about putting a lightning effect on both but decided to leave it at the end so the design isn't obscured.
