From yesterdays expedition...It`s impossible for people who have never seen a full blown explosion of the northern lights to fully understand the intensity and extreme beauty that this thing capable of...
In this one i basically kept things as they were in camera with regards to colours and such.
I was standing in the middle of this river...yes right in the middle of it. Miles away from people and other distractions. I was waiting...armed and ready. Things were quiet. The aurora was constantly present, but too weak for me to bother shooting. Within seconds things changed. A green pulse exploded in the sky..the dark landscape suddenly turned significantly brighter and my heart started beating like crazy. I exposed for about 30 seconds before removing the black card that covered the sky and then let the sky expose for another 15 seconds. The aurora moved insanely fast across the sky. If you look at the frame, it moved from the upper left corner to the right corner within a second. Sick stuff...
Is it this green, you may wonder? Yes it certainly IS this green! The activity was extreme for a minute. I`m just happy i was in this amazing location..armed and ready for such a show.
During the action my gloves fell in the river and when i recovered them they froze to two solid iceblock within a few minutes

It sounds like an unbelievable amount of work which requires years of practice. I am happy that there are people like you out there who brings to us things like that, which most of us would never see otherwise. My favorite is how the final texture of the river - the softness - mirrors the softness of the aurora, with the trees providing a nice contrasting sharpness of lines and darkness.

but seriously, this is amazing. I'd love to see northern lights in future, but currently I have no money to visit some of the northern countries

I was in TromsΓΈ in March and got to see some Auroras. We were in the city so the lights seemed rather weak but it still was such an intense feeling! Looking forward to go there again.

if you let yourself almost faze into the picture and become unfocused it looks like the lights are shimmering ^^ maybe its just me, fantastic!

The anticipation of the composition is nearly as impressive as the image itself. How did you know where the formation would occur?

I am sooooo jealous. I have always wanted to see the northern lights. The exposure is just right. The use of the black card to get brighter foreground exposure is a great idea.

The epic winter photos don't seem to cease. This must have been a very exhilarating and breathe-taking sight. To see the magnificent aurora borealisin the night sky change the river green and to see how the snow has formed around and in the river is spenlidid. I'm very glad you captured this shot.
