I came in here for the first time, completely ignorant of everything. First thing I say while looking at the painting: "Oh wow, that looks neat. This could become a magic card for sure!" Then I looked at the description xD I think it was the tiny humans that gave it away to me the most, that detail's present in a lot of different magic cards with huge monsters in them xD Awesome work dude! x3

I loved doing the cards and was surprised how popular it is even until now.
I used to be sooo into playing magic and the first thing that drew me in was the art.
I am just glad that I had a chance to do some, check that off the bucket list

I would like to know, how are artists like you asked by Wizard of the Coast to draw the illustrations? Are you given themes (like the generic appearance of a race in a given extension) or do all of you decide the themes together?

If its your first time on the job they send you Style guides to base your designs from. If you are asked to illustrate a card with a particular planes walker they will send you the final designs for that character. Sometimes they will allow you to design your own characters but it has to fit in the world of Magic:the gathering. And if you do get hired its probably because they know your style and sensibilities already fit the world. Hope this helps

Hey sorry I didn't get to answer you question. They usually give me a description of the scene, and the tone or mood that they want and what is in the scene.. Then I come up with the composition and design of the characters and costumes but they should meet the requirements of the style guide. Sometimes though they also just say its a blue card and there is a mage doing a spell.. and that's it .. lol
