i have a question..or several. i would like to know if you can explain the process of making the mask..and what you do and use for this process/piece here? do you use clay on a mold? dose it wrap all the way around the mold? if you use clay do you fire it after the green state? can you use clay? is there videos or sites that you know are good ones for explaining this that you could possibly point me to?

its an awesome hobby/profession ! when I first decided I wanted to start mask making I watched everything on youtube about it. I took notes on anything and everything till I had a basic understanding of what I was about to get in to.
To start off I got a full head armature, you could make your own but thats a tricky process. I went online and found one for around $50-$60. I also got about 15 pounds of modeling clay, most modeling clays are oil based so you dont have to worry about it drying out on you, giving you as much time as you need to work.

once you start to sculpt keep in mind that your first few masks will probably be unsuccessful.... so my advice is to start with something you consider simple when you sculpt your mask design.
If You keep your first masks simple it will help you get used to the other steps involved in mask creation like casting it in gypsum/UC 30..separating the mold and cleaning it.this is a delicate process and if done wrong it could ruin several days of sculpting.
once you got the sculpting / casting parts down it makes the whole process more entertaining.
In this Picture is a full head armature I got online, I covered it with an even semi thick layer of modeling clay all around it. once i finished the sculpting i covered it in several layers of a spray clear coating to give it a clear protective coating for the molding process. before I made my first cast I studied this [link] <----it is very useful!! its kinda crucial you get good and this part because it could devastate a project if u rush or screw up casting your mold. once you got a good mold of your mask its ready for latex or silicone then painting...then repeat the process over.

hope this helps
Ryan
