I work from midtone to dark to light.

I paint it all at one go, progressively, hardly ever sectional unless i REALLY have a clear visual.. so clear i remember the mental values and so on.

Jin Roh was influenced Heavily by WW2 and the German designers who came up with battle 'aesthetics'. That is all.

From Akira, to GITS, Shirow, to Yoji Shinkawa. Gasmasks reign supreme in their designs. And they are the ones who started their own genres altoghther, as well

I believe there are very few seriously original ideas left in the world, but there are tonnes of redesignable ones. Everyone is inspired by everything, i just like to see proper credits given where due

thinking about what u said earlier:

... would you like to point out such mistakes? say.. perspective? if its any defence (which i think it definetely is) is that i state, 90% of the time, that my works are pruely sketch works, practice. More of a feeling exercise than a technical one. I think pointing out directly, is the only way to learn. Im not getting any

...physical grounding? explain. better still, do a paintover and show me what is it that has to be done right. (bearing in mind time factoring and speed, as well as your train of thought as the sketch progresses...as well as general appreciation of alot of other things other than bloody technical 5killz )

what you can do, is create a sense of atmosphere. you are able to conjure feelings with your use of color, light, shadow, and all the stuff that isnt connected with physical mass. i think that is amazing.

err.. so that means.. you cant tell, that .. my planes are in the air, or my men are actually is on the ground? to me, everything u stated before the last 5 words had EVERYTHING to do with physical, graphic-illusory 'mass'...?

all of this comes from your ability to just slash on that digital paint, and the fact that you arent ever worried about being too tight with your work. alot of artists arent able to work like that. it is a very uncommon gift.

We all need that sadly, i dont have much time for that, and whenever i try (aside from my new classes i signed up for) i get bored. I start to lose my interest at whats really important. Technical skills aside, if theres one thing i learnt doing real work, is that " hey, anyone can get locked up in a padded cell for 4 years with media and tutoring and practice everyday.. give the bugger some food and water and he'll be set to soar with the technical pros." .. how MOST pros make it, is with what is inside of them. Technical --expertise-- is DEFINETELY a plus, but is by no means a pre-requiste to becoming 'good', but having 'it' in you is a prerequisite and a forever, constant beacon within the designer/artisan that sets you apart from others.

Im not 'matured' as a craftsman, and i know that ive got a helluva a lot to learn,so im doing it step by step

wow... im surprised at the unusual sense of defensive hostility that your thought out reply has brought with it. i hope you didnt take offense. and i hope by no means that you are upset, or think that i am speaking down to you.

i believe that you have this natural ability to do alot of amazing things that i have been struggling with, and am continuing to struggle with.

hmmm. your response to the rendering portion threw me off alot. never in the past have you been so defensive to such comments. perhaps i was being overly critical, but that is the one thing that i believe is keeping you from true greatness.

the excuse that "these works are purely sketches" doesnt fly. you can have a drawing thats sloppy and loose as shit, and will seem chaotic, but if the perspective and proportions are off, nothing that you do down the line to it can correct it. its just bad: not to say that any of your stuff is "bad", this is hardly the case.

i definatly will try a paintover because i think you will see what im talking about better if i explain it visually. and i wasnt saying you dont have any technical skills, and that is HARDLY all that i look at. actually im in a phase in my work right now where im having trouble moving past the sketch phase, and tight technical rendering is the last thing i want to do.

but continuing with that, when sketching, the linework has to capture the essence of reality, that doesnt mean being tight, but you do have to take just a little bit more time, and take into consideration those technical issues. again, i will look at a piece and attempt a paintover...

what i was saying here, is you capture feeling, emotion and drama of people, places, and things better than alot of artists i know and follow. you can create the feel of an environment, but you cant nescessarily construct it correctly. yes this does come with time, but im meerly pointing out that in my opinion, its time to start thinking about that.

you missed the point here, i was saying that the ability to not care about each stroke, and to just blindly attack a blank canvas is inspiring, and is a rare skill that so many artists dont have. as far as im concerned, your confidence in that regard is one of your best and most promising qualities as an artist. too many people labor over the tinyiest little stroke, and can never get gestural like you do. this was supposed to be the highest compliment! your "works" are NOT in any way, shitty sketches.

hmm. perhaps i came off too brashly, iunno, something in the tone of the comment set you off, and i totally wasnt trying to hit a nerve at all. i wholeheartedly admire your work, and respect you as an artist. more than anyone else here, i look forward do seeing your next deviation. i believe you have "IT" and that was the point of the comment.

life drawing doesnt have to be a boring technical excercise, take some time and sit in front of the mirror, get your relatives or friends to pose for you, look up some perspective on the net, dont get bogged down in technical schmechnical, but actually LOOK at the reality, and draw from it in your own sketchy style. only by truly understanding reality, can ones artwork function properly.

again, i hope i didnt offend you, i apologise if i did, and i await future deviations.

yes, as said earlier, my sketches are more .. gestural studies, im not a freak on accuracy, as you can see from waaaaay back... but i do enjoy- getting gritty with everything else..

-so, as u know im a lazy mafugger.. so i took up figure classes and freehand electives to give me .. force me.. to practice

and yes, of course, everything is a must (allbasics) and i find myself very upset with the way i am sloppy with proportions and the like.

Perhaps i was grumpier that day cause school just started, new classes added and all, and i apologise if you also took my comments in any other way.
