Description
Snowtrooper Captain leading a charge. I was really inspired by alot of Japanese model kit box art when I did this, and I was hoping to bring some of that 'no-nonsense photojournalistic' look to this image. Like as though you were there in the trench next to them.As always, my favourite characters to paint are the incidental ones in the background.. I always think they end up having the most natural poise and story. I also homaged a bit of Jin Roh in the way he held his MG34- i mean Blaster... by the bipod.
Also, now that I'm looking at it again after so long.. those explosions do seem a bit huge. Maybe the rebels are packing some serious heat. Whatever.

I remember seeing The ESB as a kid in the movies. The Battle of Hoth was the most spectacular thing I had ever seen. It lasted so brief and the snow troopers along with the other Imperial Stormtroopers got only a brief showing. Great job at capturing what we could only imagine!

You have captured everything you wished with this pic but a lot more. It is striking, bold, attractive, and very realistic; it could be any nation's troops in the heat of battle in the coldest of climates.
I love the pose, the way you do the instrumentation, the wow of the spectacle and the honesty of what this all entails.
If there is a gripe its this - I wish Star Wars was like this and not the F**king kiddie advert that it has become.
Seeing this makes me weep because Star Wars could have been this.

Snowtroopers have been my favorite kind since I first saw them, and this is the finest depiction I've seen. You have a wonderful flair for creating a palette. This is better than all the prequels combined!

Thanks man... I felt the same way too when I saw Star Wars. These guys simply had no personality which was a shame because their design was so darn cool. Then again they were all brainwashed... weren't they? Or something? I'm probably making up excuses for bad acting here, but hey, its worth a thought

its amazing art work, the frame speaks lots even if we can't see the whole battle.
one thing that keeps me from enjoying the full picture is that they don't have the dark "goggles" that make them look menacing. Having to see the eyes just takes the star wars out of the picture for me.

You know I think I figured out what makes your paintings unique: it's the poses of your characters. Everything you paint looks like it's in slow motion because you capture that period of human movement that's halfway between stability and the awkward in-between poses that are captured only in bad photography. It makes your paintings look dreamy, or poetic.
