The Milky Way shines brightly above the lava lake in Halema'uma'u Crater. I even caught a meteor in there for bonus splendor! Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.Tech Info: Single Exposure Sony a7 with Rokinon 24mm f/1.4, ISO 2000, 15 seconds.

I adore the balance of both majesty and intensity within this photograph, conveying two forces of nature that are completely different but have the same impact of awe. The contrast between the lake of lava and the belt of the galaxy is equally brilliant. Not only this, but being able to catch the passing of a meteor crossing over the photograph makes it much more perfectly caught in the moment.

This is a really cool image--when I visited, the volcano was slumbering. But even then it was an awesome sight at night, like the eye of a sleeping dragon. And the starry night sky above Hawaii is amazingly clear!

(To create folders for your gallery, there is an open margin off to the left of it beneath "Featured", "All", and "Scraps". Beneath these three choices is a block icon that should read "Create New Folder".)
