Powerful industrialist and philanthropist Samuel Johnson/ super-powered crime lord Power Surge, one of the major villains from the Dark Avenger Universe.

Samuel Johnson was born in the slums of Los Angeles, the son of a factory worker and a housewife. He and his brother Leroy were good boys in a bad situation that were never quite able to turn it around. As young men, the two saved up for college while failing to get several business ventures off the ground. The two brothers refused to give up, eventually finding some small success - success that would forever change the course of their lives.

The two came into possession of a severely damaged machine and repaired it. When they activated it, they were injured in the resulting expulsion of energy. Whatever the machine's intended purpose, its current capabilities granted people extraordinary abilities. Leroy gained pyrokinesis, while Samuel gained electrical absorption he could channel into his body to redistribute as he saw fit. The brothers became superheroes for a short time, while also gaining capital to secure their new business.

Mounting pressure from the corrupt and the powerful emerged on the brothers, as they were being pushed to join the ranks of organized crime. While Leroy refused, Samuel began to relent, slowly going behind his brother's back to achieve greater heights at the cost of his soul. When Leroy found out, he threatened to expose Samuel. Feeling cornered, Samuel murdered his brother and his sister-in-law to protect himself and his wife and daughter's future.

Samuel took in his orphaned nephew. He rid himself of his former heroic codename and rose to become the West Coast's Kingpin of Crime known in the underworld as Power Surge. Power Surge has a legion of followers, criminals, mercenaries, and allies able and willing to do his dirty work for him. When all other options are exhausted, he steps in to show why he's been at the top for so long. While his powers don't allow him to generate electricity naturally, he can seemingly absorb an unlimited amount to power himself. Using this grants him electrical powers of all kinds, including limited magnetic powers, and his top speed is half that of light. His bursts of speed cause sonic booms, electrical devices to go haywire, and generates enough friction to light things on fire. He can manipulate electricity to burn clean through enemies.

Samuel Johnson is beloved by the public as the CEO of a major conglomerate, a philanthropist who runs a number of charities and never forgot where he came from. After his wife, the love of his life, passed away of natural causes, he never remarried or even dated again, still wearing the wedding ring to honor his commitment to her. He's a loving father to his only daughter Angelica. His booming voice comes off as reassuring to the people who work for him and with him. That same booming voice strikes abject fear in those who know his true nature. He is both respected and feared in the criminal underworld. A reasonable man, he's brought structure to organized crime, but also severely punishes anyone who steps out of line.
